Brutal. I've actually had the Kygo remix of "What's Love Got To Do With It" stuck in my head for over a month now, guess I'll be listening to it again tonight. RIP
My first exposure to Tina Turner was in Ken Russell’s Tommy at the Odeon on 33rd & 20th SW. This scene has it all. The Acid Queen herself, fit, sexy and dangerous. Oliver Reed, drunk, as always, and distracted. Keith Moon acting like a creep (seems like a natural). And Roger Daltrey doing an impression of Roger Daltrey on Qualuddes. This was a trip for a 13 or 14 year old.
Also loved this from Private Dancer. Chick can rock (and work a camera).
RIP Tina.

I went to Toronto for a weekend in my late teens and we stayed at The Royal York. They used to get big acts in The Imperial Room there. We hadn’t paid attention to that when we booked but found out that Tina Turner was the show that night. We couldn’t get tickets but came back to the hotel late and she was still on stage, we managed to sneak in the back of the room and got to see her perform Proud Mary. My 19 year old self was over the moon. Just a glimpse but I’ve never forgotten.

Tina had an interesting connection to Australia with Mad Max 3 and Nutbush City Limits being our national dance. Also was a huge promoter of Rugby League and I recently discovered this brilliant ad.

I remember Mel Gibson saying that Tina Turner straight talked him on the set of Mad Max 3 because he was self destructing and credits her for helping him turn it around. Obviously he has battled sobriety on and off since then, but the way he was going back then, he not going to have a long career and may have been headed for an early grave. Just one of the small stories that shows she wasn't just a great artist, but a great person.
