I think he'd have wanted out actually before that season because he apparently had a crappy time in the bubble, and the team looked pretty bad that year as well.

So... why didn't he want out and/or ask for a trade then? It doesn't matter if he was signed to a 3, 6 or 8 year deal at the time, his status would have still been the same, and he would have been under contract either way. So why didn't he want out if he wanted out?

I'm confused he never demanded a trade. He stated when his contract was up he wasn't willing to sign with the Flames. You make it seem like he was this unprofessional guy who demanded to get away from the team when the reality was he was professionally and gave the team a year notice saying his plan wasn't to sign with the Flames.

I am unable to fault him for leaving for greener pastures after:
 - signing a 3 year bridge when he was willing to sign for longer

 - being told to tone down his schtick after the Muzzin incident

 - playing as well as he did despite Sutter's system

 - seeing the writing on the wall with Sutter continuing on as Coach and Gaudreau opting to leave

 - being in the position to choose his destiny because of the aforementioned bridge deal

Tkachuk is a Panther now because of how Treliving and the Calgary Flames conducted business over the past 4+ years.

Most people will admit he forced a trade with his own interests in mind. Like seriously how can you suggest he didn't demand a trade? He said trade me to these 5 places now or have zero asset value.

This has been the hardest year for me as a Flames fan, and I've been here for all of them.
So happy we have Connie. Go Panthers go!

It definitely has surpassed the original Luong trade, as well as the Bure trade on based on results alone; all due to the domination by Tkachuk in year one after the trade. He led them to the playoffs on his back and alongside Bob, has brought them to the finals. No different than Iggy and Kipper did in 04. Superstar forward with a dominating goalie.

Let’s hope they can close it off and take home the cup.

Technically yes but at that point he can also just walk for nothing

Treliving put himself in the corner and has nobody but himself to blame for the whole fiasco

To be fair, I think Tkachuk had 2 total breakaways in his time as a Flame.
The skating definitely isn't underrated. But he has other tools.

Fine but we dont need to pretend he did the Flames a solid...he wanted the 100 point season contract but not in Calgary. He knew there was no way the Flames could risk it.
