lol. Florida’s top line, as well as their player overall player, best defenceman, and best goaltender are all trade acquisitions or signings.

It’s time to admit there is no rule.

This is Lindholm's cash in contract. He just outperformed his first major contract by a country mile. He's getting 7 years at the max amount he can negotiate on the market next summer or 8 years at the max amount he can get from us to sign this off season.

He's not going to leave years on the table, not a chance.

The thing I Iiked most about the Presser wss the reflection on how Conroy came to Calgary. It was going from a cup contender to a bad team with no real direction at the time. There would have been a lot of reasons for him to be miserable and try to leave. But he gave it a chance, worked towards fixing a bad situation as a player. He was the guy who told Iginla that for the team to move ahead he had to be the Captain.

So that gives me hope that he can come in see what's not working and find a way to make it work.

This is possibly the most positive thread on CP for a long time, and I love it.

Making Conroy GM seems to have provided a very heavy shot in the arm for the team and fans as a whole. Looking forward to seeing his first moves this Summer. Not expecting any miracles but he was certainly saying all of the righ things.

Don't want to scroll though all the pages, but missed some portions of the presser yesterday. Was anything said about Iginla joining the team in any capacity?

Conroy said he wants to talk to him but that he was committed to coaching his son this season.

Take a drink everytime Conroy says "Ya know"... you will be drunk quicker than Treliving with his "process"

I am happy with this move.

If the playoffs were ENTIRELY RANDOM, the 8th seed would be expected to make the finals once every four years (every 8th year, in each conference).

In the last 20 years, an 8th seed has made the finals 5 times.

I’ll say again

8th seed teams are still at least ~.560 ish hockey clubs who score more than they allow, and win more than they lose

It’s not like there are any easy outs

Seravalli and some of the other insiders should take some heat for making us all think Iginla was basically part of the deal. Conroy hadn't even talked to him. Nice going

But the stats you cite include games vs non-playoff teams. Besides, points % of any one team in a vacuum means very little in the 3-point era.

8th seeds typically have losing records, sometimes garishly losing records, against playoff-calibre teams.

These cinderella runs boil down to hot goalies, and other luck-based factors. Very seldom is an 8th seed some kind of sleeping giant that suddenly finds its greatness out of thin air. The 2012 Kings were an exception.

Pretty much every team has a better record against non-playoff teams than playoff teams, that's just obvious. Do 8th placed teams have drastically worse records than 7th or 6th placed teams? Do you have any numbers to illustrate your claim?

And no one has claimed that 8th placed teams are sleeping giants. Yes, goaltending and luck matter - that's the entire point! Playoff success is EXTREMELY dependent on goaltending, luck, avoiding injuries (part of luck), and getting on a roll. Every team that makes the playoffs is capable of those things happening to them.

What are the goalie stats on those 5 teams vs the other 15 years team in the finals.

Being a bottom seed probably makes you rely on your goalie going on a crazy run like we are seeing.

8th place teams do have drastically worse records than say, division winners. Florida had a way worse RS record than any of the three teams they just beat in the playoffs.

Agreed. But it's not a formula that teams should count on. Flames have counted on it for 33 years and have just one run to the finals to show for it.
