No penalty, inexplicably (although it could be argued that it should be offsetting, a high stick vs embellishment), but the play had been blown, so no goal either.

A weird sequence.
Thanks. I don’t know why they’d put the goal on NHL.com.

Usually as soon as it goes in, it's on there. You have to wait until 1 second goes off the clock to know that it actually counted.

It would be overall good for the NHL and good for that franchise if the Panthers won it, finally. Hopefully it could spark them to actually get a really good following rolling.

The "get in anything can happen" is cool as long as you're not facing the Greasers with Markstrom your net!

The get in and anything can happen is literally your goalie going on run like Bob. There is a reason teams finish in 8th in the regular season.

Well, Barkov leaving the game in the first period really put the Panthers in a hole. Overall they defended really well despite that though and Bob was good again. The Canes are getting dominated physically by the Panthers just like Toronto. Boston series was equal.

If Barkov is out and substantial time though that could be too hard for them to overcome. Looked like a harmless play so it could be something he was battling before.

Bleh. If Florida wins, they win. It's not like they're Vancouver.

They won the President's trophy last year, it's not like this is totally surprising. Also had coaching change and bunch of players changing and then had a lot of injuries in December-January. Maybe iced a full team first time in the end of it or early February.

Yeah but if he plays like he did in the regular season the Panthers are out in round 1.

When you only need 1-2 goals to win changes your mindset and gives you confidence. This is Johnathan Quick like numbers.

Imagine Markstrom going on a heater like this in the playoffs last season instead of sewering the round.

You can't really say it's the presidents winning team that's doing it because of all the changes it's a different team.

Yeah, this isn't some plucky underdog story. This is an all-star team that just took a while to get their poop in a scoop. It's like the tortoise and hare story, but instead of the tortoise winning, the hare ramps it up in the final lap to do what hares do.

What a year. Unbelievable on so many levels.

And I don’t have to look far to find all those posts shutting down any chance Florida had at even coming close to making the playoffs.
Yeah I mean... 6 teams (including a team led by 3 time cup winner Crosby) all suddenly crapping themselves down the stretch to allow Florida to barely squeak in, is something that anyone could have reasonably predicted.

Well it's not the same obviously but the only major change was Weegar missing. Tkachuk has more than replaced Huberdeau. Then you had some smaller pieces move out plus the rentals who weren't most of the year even part of the team.

Bob has been very good in the playoffs but they also play a much more playoffs style hockey now and it took them time to learn. It was miserable to watch the first half of the year but started clicking in February-March. Now they allow almost no second chances which has been huge in the playoffs.

"All star team" oh please, if Bobrovsky plays anything less than all-world, they don't have a prayer of getting past the Bruins let alone getting to the cup final.

No doubt the top end talent is dragging the team along with all world goaltending.

When the Staal brothers got placed as regulars in the lineup it seems like a bubble team and that's where they finished.

I haven't watched a ton but the goaltending numbers are ridiculous.

Also has Carolina always looked at his slow and sloppy as a team?

They play the shot volume game like Calgary did. They don't have Svechnikov either. It's not as though they're getting outplayed in this series, Bobrovsky has just been great.

Florida improved their win % (or maybe point percentage) every month this season after winning the presidents trophy last season

This is more similar to when the Flames got Kipper mid season and went on the run

They weren’t a 8th place team for the 2nd half of the season and continued that momentum

To me they looked demoralized after the Panthers scored. Bob is in their head probably and I can't imagine it's much better next game. After Barkov exited the game they really had an opportunity to win this but instead dropped the ball.

edit
Also should mention that the Panthers physically dominate infront of the net and allow almost nothing in the slot (outside some breakdowns)

What does stuff like this even mean, though? Take out one of the best parts of any team and they aren’t going to be as good as they are.

You could say “if Ullmark plays as bad as Markstrom instead of putting up a .930 then Boston loses round one” and oh look, that’s exactly what happens.

Being demoralized in the playoffs like pretty much makes you play safe and scared to make mistakes. Markstrom did that to us last playoffs. If he does what Bob is doing we probably win the cup.
