Too bad it was my cousin, who is an Oiler fan consoling him on Gaudreau's couch that night and not me. I would have yelled some sense into him! hahaha

Dude, maybe take a break. Bennett was good all year long again like last year, he missed time because an injury. And has been on another level in the playoffs. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Considering Bennett had proved me right the previous 1.5 years, I didn't need to continue bumping this thread.
But now that he's willing his team to the Finals with Chucky, the entertainment value we're getting out of you right now is delicious lmao so thank you.

The fumbling of Sam Bennett will be Treliving biggest mistake and hiring a bum coach to bring him along.
Sam was also incredibly frustrating and inconsistent for us. Flipping him from C to W back and forth and with crappy linemates didn't help but he also had a hand in it by not performing for us.
It's good that he has figured his game out and coach Q probably helped him.

So you admit you were wrong after calling Tkachuk a choker, so why we should we believe anything you say about Sam Bennett. Sutter, coach Q and Maurice all raved Bout Sam Bennett, yet somehow we are supposed to take anything you say about him with a grain of salt?
What are your qualifications outside of being a fan?

100% I was wrong about Tkachuk! They beat the best team in NHL history after they were down 3-1. He brought it!

Not hard for a player to be discouraged, we all saw what happend to Huberdeau. You make some good points in that he wasn't handled very well, just like Huberdeau.

Step back, this version of Sam Bennett is a lot more confident than the one we had. It is not a stretch to say a large part of it may be an organizational problem. He also didn’t fit here because we didn’t have the right players. Maybe it is not all on Sam Bennett, do we agree?

Looking at how Bennett looks right now in Florida, I feel a lot of blame should go to the Flames. Gulutzan being the biggest culprit. Bennett is a completely different player down there.

Sam was always great in the playoffs. You can't question his heart he competes.
He's always wanted to play center and we kept putting him on the wing.
Never forget Geoff Ward was tasked with gettimg him going and asked Sam what position he wants to play in camp after play in center on that bubble line with Dube and Lucic.
Ward put him on the wing right away and that's when you could tell this was over.

That ‘less points’ thing is kind of nothing
They had one (1) fewer point than the Flames. Boston had enough extra points - they were 22 clear of the next closest team - to lower the bar for the other 7 getting in, in the east, by that point
Flames stunk and lost to bottom feeders.
Because they didn’t have Bennett and Tkachuk to help win those games

Bet Sam felt really discouraged after that. Hard to play for Ward after that when he gave his heart in those playoffs..Florida let's Sam play, believes in him and raves about him, those things give a player confidence and more importantly a team and a home to believe in. We treated Sam like a bit of an outcast and some of that was on the coaching.

Half of his line mates in Florida were linemates of his in Calgary. I think we probably had the right players.

I think the case of Bennett was that he needed a change of scenery and he's not the first player that just needed a fresh start with another organization. There's no doubt that Gulutzan's mismanagement of Bennett was the turning point in Calgary where things started to go south and Peters/Ward didn't have the patience or commitment to getting him going. Bennett also has to take some blame here as when he did get opportunities to play with better players as brief as they were, he never seized them. It just wasn't going to work out with the Flames with the player unhappy and the organization not willing to provide him a top 6 role. From the moment he put on a Panthers jersey he's just been a happier, more confident, better player and it's likely something that wasn't going to be realized in Flames jersey. Rather than complain constantly about how the Flames screwed up, I'm happy to move on and cheer for the player to have success in Florida as it's a good story. I will say watching him with Tkachuk scoring all those big playoff goals certainly makes one wonder what could have been.

Being a top 5 pick on a Canadian team and not scoring 40 goals per on your entry level contract seems to get you labeled as a “bust” pretty quickly. It’s unsurprising to me that hockey players excel in the southern US.

It also feels like Calgary coaches want to reign players in a do it their way only. Not just Sutter but the previous group as well.
You have to be patient and give these players some rope first before you pull them back. Once establish that give and take you can see them shine. If all it is, I'm going to take take players bet frustrated and either do too much to try and showcase themselves or just look lost like Sam did.
That's why this Conroy hiring and him getting hire the coach and the names we have seen are exciting. You don't need to be a hardass or a pushover you can just be a coach who pushes guys in an environment where they can showcase their skills with team success.
I can't believe Paul Maurice is the one doing that right now lol.
