Weird stuff but some people actually believe Treliving was powerless in keeping Tkachuk long term

Some people turn themselves into pretzels to justify everything Treliving did or to lay blame on anyone other than him. I get that by all accounts, he is a super nice guy, he did some good things, and worked his tail off under difficult circumstances, but he also made some huge miscalculations that are going to cost this team for years.
Anyway, happy for Tkachuk. The Panthers have become the most interesting team in the league with him leading the way.

And some people turn themselves into pretzels blaming him for everything and choose to ignore other factors
Let’s not pretend one side is more objective than the other.

Tkachuk forced his way off the team while under contract. I'm just not sure why anything would have changed had he been signed to a longer deal the last opportunity we had.

good post, some of us may forget he is only human and humans make mistakes, he tried his best to do it the way he thought best under the circumstances.

Nah, that's not the correct way to look at it. The 4th year was always going to be a "is he going to sign this off season and if not you need to trade him" scenario, that was the nature of the final RFA year, we're seeing it all over the league.
That doesn't automatically equal "he would have requested a trade if he had a 6 year deal". And even if he did, that would have given us way more time to sit back, analyze and put him out to the league on our schedule instead of a week notice or whatever it was.

That guy is going to be my favorite player for a long, long while. Stud.

Mine too. He’s a superstar who’s only going to get better and better.
Wonder if he will give the Flames a shout out when he lifts the Cup in a couple weeks.
Hope Huberdeau is enjoying this.

He would have been signed for an additional 5 years.
You don’t see that as a change?

No he did not. He wanted to be paid. Florida had no interest in going 8 years with him.
