He's been an Assistant GM for a decade now and has no doubt learned a lot from serving under Treliving, and probably Burke as well when he was here. At this point I'd say the guy has certainly paid his dues and has earned a shot at the top job. I hope he gets it.

imo we get good goaltending and a bit of tinkering and shedding of some contracts and we can be a playoff team again, and this playoffs is showing any team has a chance.
I feel that the coaching change we will see a better season, and we aren't as bad as it seems right now.

Sutter was the worst at selling assets for a high value. The Phaneuf deal was the worst ever from a talent perspective. I know some will point to other deals but not shopping Phaneuf and only getting back subpar talent was forever his legacy deal.

You have to remember that Conroy has been gaining experience for this role for more than a decade.
If I look at the Flames organization over that decade I’d argue it’s in a much better spot than it was prior to that. Now, that isn’t because of Conroy but Conroy has been here as part of that momentum. I think it’s exciting to see internal development, especially when it comes to a well respected individual like Conroy.
It’s such an odd position for fans to judge though. We don’t really have a read on what could be a good hire, but we do have history to review where we could make arguments why some people would be bad hires.
I believe Nonis and Bowman would be outright bad hires.
I think Bergevin would be a pretty “meh” hire.
Conroy? Unsure, but the potential for him to develop into one of the “next wave” of good General Managers is definitely an exciting thought.

Would be really good if between ownership and management they said they'd give this the last attempt at going for it, then rebuilding. Consequently, if you could build your management structure around those assumptions it would be good too.

Just watched a Conroy interview with Boomer, Rhett, and Pinder from several months ago. Conroy was talking about how awful that trade was haha. Also mentioned obscure trades like the Chris Clark trade and how he couldn't even remember the return Sutter got.

Treliving seemed to put a lot of trust in Conroy and apparently got him to do a lot of heavy lifting. Titles are meaningless really and I would even argue he has some GM experience if he was delegated some of the GM work, which is what is sounds like.

GOAT!

Wasn't Conroy essentially the GM of the Heat/Wranglers? I seem to remember the AHL team being his purview.

if Conroy did all the heavy lifting than does that mean loosing jg&mt was partly his doing too?

I don't think he had autonomy to make decisions. I think it was more a situation of Treliving delegating specific tasks for him to carry out.

It wasn't a fleecing. Do yourself a favor and delete this past season from memory. Any team that went through one single summer of completely obliterating their core are going to have a hard time coming together. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. And they still managed to finish 16th. That was the garbage team with garbage players with a coach who had worn out his welcome before the ASG.
Have some faith.

true only been 1 bad year i'll give Huby a new start with a players coach and see what happens, if he has another bad year, though..i'm just being emotional because of the sting of chuck kicking ass. I'd still take Chuck over huby every time and I like huby
