considering that former young core (Gaudreau, Bennett, Tkachuk, Monahan) were all apparently close friends, I'm not sure ever event was independent either. A lot of dominos fell just wrong for things to turn out the way they have. It all goes back to the 2016 offseason, whether it was lowball with Gaudreau, trading a 2nd for Elliott, signing Troy Brouwer, or hiring Glen Gulutzan.

Florida now 6-0 in OT. Eighth straight win on the road. Just ridiculous.
I’m surprised Chucky didn’t score it off his backside, the hockey gods are clearly doing whatever they want right now…

Lot of revisionist history on the bridge deal.
People forgetting that we didn’t have the cap space to sign him to more?

Yeah extending Frolik was that important.

Were they all close friends?
I was always under the impression it was more Monahan/Gaudreau vs Tkachuk/Bennett.

How about that ballsy pass by Reinhart. Overtime of a playoff game and he’s got a point blank chance and he has the composure to make one more pass.

Yeah, I'm still of the opinion any post contract talk of max terms were just backfilling. But even if Treliving had made the moves to do a long term deal (at money Tkachuk would have been demanding - starting with a 9 - I'm betting he might have pulled a trade demand after some of the less successful years - maybe after the bubble.

because other less valued players were priority of tre, that is probably when chuck started thinking he isn't appreciated here. Sutter not giving him the ice time he deserved and not giving the C sealed the deal imo.

Panthers aren't a normal 8 seed. Not only are they largely the same roster that had 120pts a year ago (sans Marchment/Weegar/Huberdeau, plus Tkachuk), but they were a top five-ish team in most fancy stats this year too. Goaltending was probably the reason they didn't cruise to the playoffs, but now that they have it, they don't have many holes, outside of maybe the Staal brothers not quite being what they once were.

The only evidence is out of Chuckys mouth himself, in more than one podcast interview he said that was what he was initially looking for.

That's literally the point. Tree bridged him to keep the roster together instead of making enough room to lock him up. You bridge a Mangiapane or a Dube, but you always lock up a Tkachuk.

it's just hard to put this in the past because we are currently watching an amazing thing happen, after playoffs it will be easier to heal and move on

Please remember the Oil Vegas game just a week ago, keep your spirits up. Tkachuk wouldn't have won here anyways. Glad it's them not dry#######

This is the most overlooked story of these playoffs. That guy had lost his job to Spencer Knight and then again to Alex Lyon. He has been magnificent

Way after the fact, and it would have been a tough number even without the contact everyone blames (Frolik).
And what was he going to say - "no I want to get to free agency and leave asap"? Tkachuk is nothing if not media savvy.
