Tre is going to do a great job in Toronto and I'm all for it since he's no longer with the Flames and good humans like Tre deserve good outcomes.

If you say you aren’t sure you want the job then come back saying you do want the job while also asking for what is rumoured to be substantial, then it’s tough not to view that as mercenary from shanny’s point of view. That’s different than saying you are all in AND want to be paid massively.

Thats's exactly it. Shanahan's a company man now. If he ultimately has to vouch for Dubas to sell the board on the value of his contractual increase, I'm inclined to think Shanahan didn't feel comfortable with Kyle's sincerity and vouching for him. There are two sides to every story but I truly think there was more truth than false in everything Shanahan said. Dubas miscalculated his hand.

Cliff Fletcher all over again.
Just don't do a trade with him if he goes there.

If Tre didn't like the "autonomy" here, is he really going to want to report to Shanahan who then reports to Rogers?

There was never any controversy, Treliving knows the optics and he and the Flames also know how it was going to play out. Flames didn't hold him back in any way, as he's under contract. Of course wink and nods get done and Treliving and the Flames know that over the previously weeks and months, so both sides knew Treliving had options. Bill Peters was hired basically months before, as soon as they announced in Carolina he wasn't going to be back with a month or so in the season, it may have made his decision to leave then as well.
Treliving and the Flames again knew that if there was an opening there'd be quiet negotiating. Also am pretty sure that those in the know figured it was a better than not chance that Dubas wasn't going to be back, regardless of the way it's played out in Toronto the last days, months ago.
So Treliving knew that Toronto would be an option, months ago, which also played into his situation with the Flames. The Flames likely knew that too.

Don't forget about Bell and Larry Tanenbaum.
The Toronto market is very very corporate. Some of the rumblings about why Burke was fired years ago in Toronto as President/GM had to do with his inability to deal with the corporate style governance model. Can't be swearing, making off colour remarks, well behaved at corporate events etc.
It's different if you work for an individual owner as to a trifecta of corporate boards and CEO's of those boards.

Ehhhhhhh. Look at who his dad and grandfather were and how he probably got an easy in to the SSM Greyhounds. Not exactly a random off the street.

Wonder how this impacts Matthews now signing in Toronto. Dubas being in Toronto made it seem like a slam dunk

I still think it'll work out. MLSE will pay him his money. Where I think may be a problem is if Matthews with the uncertainty, wants some say on what's going to happy with Nylander and Marner. If he starts to get into that conversation it'll be tough. So you have to hire a trustworthy person with a good reputation (ie: Treliving) and hope Treliving delivers the PR delivered message of "you're in good hands, we will surround you with hard working talent" and give him his contract and a week to decide. I'm sure he'll sign, but if he wants to have a personnel say, they're really messed. Make no mistake with this Dubas not only messed himself up, but he messed up potential deals that include Nylander and/or Marner could be bring back what they need. July 1st Nylander and Marner will be locked in and it'll take considerable creativity for the new GM to manage through it.

isn't the Matthews signing basically going to come down to a. will the Leafs give him the ridiculous contract he will want and b. does he want to stay in Canada?
I can't see how Dubas being there or not would change anything unless you think Dubas would change the mind of ownership on what they would/wouldn't pay which seems unlikely.

I think you hit the two major factors on the head. There was probably a level of trust with Dubas he had in that he knew Dubas traditionally wanted to keep his buddies around, and perhaps if he was forced to deal one of them away, he'd do it with respect to Matthews (whatever that means). Now with a new person he doesn't know, he could be having doubts on the direction the new guy wants to take it. So the big issue of dollars will be there, and I'm sure at this point he's at comfort playing in Canada if he's getting $13M+, but there's an unknown element of trust that he may want to poke his nose into. It may be along the lines of, "I'm worth $15M, I'll take a $1.5M discount to be here, but who am I going to be playing with?" With Dubas he could assume it, with unknown guy, who knows? The challenge is getting him signed before July 1st so the new GM can have autonomy to deal Marner or Nylander to an expanded set of teams. Now if Matthews says I'll wait and see, it makes dealing his buddies harder and narrows the possible teams to work with if a deal is made after July 1st.

I'm assuming Frank missed a "not" in this tweet.
Oh no, nevermind, he's saying that Pridham is essentially the acting GM for now.
Very confusing wording. At first, I thought he was saying teams shouldn't call about hiring Pridham.

The more I hear about this whole situation, it sounds like Dubas and his agent were really trying to play the Leafs to try and put them up against the wall to maximize his payday, and Shanahan caught on.

Why anyone would want Dubass in Calgary is beyond comprehension, he was gifted star players, signed stupid contracts and failed to even come close to building a defense group that could come close to winning in the playoffs, he's better suited to be Edmonton's next GM.

I don’t think you read that correctly, respectfully
Correlation does not equal causality
He said something happened after the report, he didn’t claim responsibility
