I was reading that Philpot did have surgery on his injured hamstring so he'll be missing training camp and there's currently no timetable for his return. Hopefully, he doesn't miss too many regular season games. As much as he's a valuable receiver, I think the Stamps will miss him most on kick-off and punt returns.

I sure hope this guy can get to the point where you can count on him being in the lineup. Seems like he may have a glass body.

Injuries really seem to pile up on the Stampeders.
DO these guys overtrain or something.

Stamps will have another QB in training camp...
The Calgary Stampeders have signed American quarterback Logan Bonner.
The six-foot-one, 230-pound passer completed 60.3 percent of his passes for 4,381 yards, 42 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions over 18 career games at Utah State (2021-22).
In 2021, he set new single-season school records with 3,628 passing yards and 36 passing touchdowns. He was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player in the Mountain West Conference Championship Game after throwing for 318 yards in a 46-13 victory over San Diego State.

Good scouting report on him below.
http://nfldraftblitz.com/2023/01/25/...er-utah-state/
Seems to be a pretty average athlete with above average arm talent. Let's hope the statement below is correct.

I think Bonner, at this point, is what he is, and it looks like he can make a respectable career for himself in Canada or another football league.

New rule changes for this year
The football won't have to be handled in order for a single to be awarded on a kickoff starting this CFL season. The removal of that requirement was among the changes unanimously approved by the CFL's board of governors, the league announced Monday. The adjustments were originally proposed by the CFL's rules committee.
The change aligns the single rule on kickoffs with all other kicking plays.
The CFL is also restricting the number of players within two yards of the line of scrimmage on either side of the longsnapper to a maximum of six at the snap. ,The restriction won't apply if the offence lines up in an unbalanced line or an offensive player moves or motions from his initial position.
And the restriction will only apply on field goals or kicked convert attempts. The aim of the change is to avoid overloading the defensive line on one side of the long snapper.
When a team is penalized for holding while in possession of the ball in its goal area, a safety has been added to the available options for the opposition.

Former CFL, NFL QB Kapp passes away at the age of 85
Joe Kapp, the former CFL and NFL star quarterback, has died. He was 85.
According to CFL officials, Kapp died Monday night. He had reportedly been battling dementia for more than a decade.
Kapp played collegiately at the University of California, Berkley and was taken in the 18th round of the 1959 NFL draft by Washington but when the club didn't contact him, Kapp opted to sign with the CFL's Calgary Stampeders.
The B.C. Lions acquired Kapp from Calgary after the 1960 season.
Kapp was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Player in 1963, the same season he led the Lions to a Grey Cup appearance. He guided B.C. to its first league title the following year.

Pretty cool idea for training camp:
Quote:
The Calgary Stampeders will be acknowledging several of their legendary alumni with special jersey patches during 2023 training camp as well as pre-season play.
Strictly limited to the pre-season period, some members of the current Calgary team will temporarily be assigned numbers otherwise retired by the Stampeders franchise. The players given these numbers will wear a special patch with the name and number of the honoured player on their jerseys at practice and during pre-season games.
Once the regular season begins, the numbers will once again be taken out of circulation.
“These are some of the most important players in franchise history and temporarily putting these numbers in use is a great opportunity to remind everyone about their contributions,” said Stampeders general manager and head coach Dave Dickenson.

I think these are pretty good numbers for Cole Tucker on his pro day (taken from a 3downnation article). The fact that he qualifies as a National due to his mother being born in Brandon, Manitoba is a bonus.
Tucker ran a 4.67-second forty-yard dash at his pro day along with a 37-inch vertical jump, a nine-foot, seven-inch broad jump, 6.91-second three-cone drill, 4.23-second short shuttle, and 10 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

I'm not a hater, you'll see I opened my comment saying I like the CFL. I go to a handful of games per season.
That's great that you are a 50-year fan. But the CFL needs new fans if it will survive. Rightly or wrongly, young potential fans look down at the CFL because of their different rules. I don't think the CFL will survive without adopting NFL rules based on my experience with the people I associate with.
I had to get rid of my company season tickets because I couldn't give them away anymore.

i dont think that is the reason, its second tier to them and thus they are no interested. NFL rules wouldnt bring in new fans in my opinion

You're going to try to drive this home again a few pages later? Lol.
My experience and many others is really not aligned with whatever small, anecdotal experience you claim to have. It's always been skill and ticket prices here in Calgary, 100%. Never has it been different rules that have kept people away.
And I talk to so many people around the city I'm baffled at your experience as it seems everyone else is too.

OK why is your experience valid, but my "claimed" experience is small and anecdotal? I am telling the truth, I don't have a reason to lie.
You act like the CFL is thriving, yet places like Edmonton have all-time low attendance. The Argos are recent champions and their attendance is abysmal. Maybe you take that as a sign that interest is growing among young fans?

Is there a way you guys could start a new thread about this topic - The CFL having growth issues/dying and leave this thread to news about the Stamps or other CFL teams?

Looks like no ESPN+ at all for USA CFL fans...games are either on CBS Sports Network, or streamed for free via the CFL.
Also, all preseason games not on TSN or RDS will be streamed in Canada.
