It really makes me wonder what was said in the room following that Oilers loss, in which we actually played pretty well, that lead to the line blender and the 7 game losing skid.

Markstrom was also playing good until that early game against Edmonton and that freebie he gave away to McDavid. I feel goaltending tanked and that was the start of it.

Markstrom has always seemed to have a huge mental issue with Edmonton.

That 5-1 start was one of the best the Flames have had ever. Over the decades no matter how good or bad Flames teams were, they always started slow. This team came out of the gates playing great and Kadri was their best player. Sutter then changed the lines and whatever else behind the scenes and it all just kind of fell apart from there. I suspect there was some cheating by forwards that he didn't like and he put his foot down on that and layed out the "my way or the highway approach" and player frustration started to set in after they lost 7 in a row playing the coach's way. Both players and coach deserve blame for what happened but I can't help but think that if Darryl was a bit more receptive to what some of the players wanted that things could have been different last season although the goaltending was so bad that it was always going to be an issue.

Kind of reminds me of the 4-0 start under Brent Sutter and him whining after every win we have to play the right way. Well they started playing the right way and started a stretch of missing the playoffs for 6 years.

Ugly 3 year stretch with some of the most boring hockey in Flames history with Brent.

Yup, it is hard to believe that Kadri was our best player in the early stretch of games. Much faster than I expected, but playing with the tenacity they needed.

For the life of me, I can't remember who he played with. Mangi?

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Huberdeau-Lindholm-Tofolli
Mangi-Kadri-Dube
Pelletier-Backlund-Coleman

That always made sense. Goddammit Sutter.

Luckily, that can be addressed, plus add Coronato. Which might drop Pelletier to 4the line but Pelletier-Ruzicka-Duehr might be a dynamte 4th line, with a veteran to spell them.

Recent Russian interview with Zadorov:

https://sport24-ru.translate.goog/ne..._x_tr_pto=wapp

Quote:
Overtime is your top players. This is skill, the puck kept, hockey IQ, you have to be cunning somewhere, somewhere a little smarter than your opponent. Our players who went into overtime did not follow the setup. Maybe they didn't have confidence because of the coach's attitude. Many factors played.
Quote:

Q: When it became known about the departure of Daryl Sutter, Huberdeau commented that they did not have a mutual understanding, journalists wrote that some players withdrew their requests for exchange. Do I understand correctly that not everything was perfect in the locker room all year?

90% of the information I can not tell you. But I will say that we had some difficulties. I liked Darryl, he made me a better player. I enjoyed playing under him. I will say this: at the moment he did not fit our team. Last year, Sutter was the perfect coach for Calgary, this season the leaders have changed, and he did not fit them. They did not find mutual understanding. When you invest $50-80 million in players, you make a choice in their favor.

Q: Problems appeared from the very beginning?

- It accumulated. At the first meeting you will never understand anything, people rub each other.

Those first meetings sound interesting. Some sort of team building exercise I guess.
