If Keller were available and a target for the Flames I would be okay with that but then trade someone like Lindholm/Hanifin etc and get a 1st back. If you send futures out for Keller then get futures for someone else

I like the player, but I kind of find it distasteful for a parent to threaten stuff like that on Twitter. Having a player with a meddling parent isn't optimal.

Young player that just had 86 points
I can't believe some people would balk at a first! what exactly are you guys expecting to draft at 16th overall?

I'd trade a 1st + in a second for him but unfortunately there's a salary cap so the + would need to be a long term contract going back as Keller is signed for 6 years at $7.15m, the offer would have to be something like Kadri, two 1st's, Wolf and a partridge in a pear tree for them not to even hang up the phone.

Others? Sure. The whole team in fact.

1. Jacob Markstrom for Draft Pick
2. Elias Lindholm for Picks & Prospects
3. Dan Vladar & Chris Tanev for Picks & Prospects
Problem with all three of these is that the Flames want to be competitive next year and non of the proposals allow them to do that without moving pieces of these returns to other teams to fill in what the Flames need.

#1 arguably does, Wolf can fill in.
#3 arguably does. Same comment on goaltending and Tanev, though I love the guy, is past his prime and moving down the lineup. Stll a super valuable player to the right team but expendable here.
#2 is tougher but if you sign a cheaper UFA centre, you can maybe make do. Or trade for say, Nick Schmaltz.

I'd do #3, but the other two are a hard no. Wolf needs some sheltering and Markstrom needs to bounce back for us to get full value out of him. I see that tandem working best for the Flames next season and giving the team the best chance to rebound AND set themselves up to get maximum value out of their assets.

The issue is that 2 and 3 are the only ones dealing with pending UFAs and 2 is the only one dealing with a problematic one.

I'd do any of the three, depending on what the follow-up plan was.
Markstrom might bounce back, but he has been bad for a whole calendar year now, so I wouldn't count on it. If he has another bad year, he will be completely immoveable without giving up a sweetener, if he isn't already. At the moment, I don't think there is a measurable difference between Markstrom and Vladar, but with Vladar being younger and less broken at this point, I would bet on him to be the better of the two for the next few years.
I really don't want to trade Lindholm, but I also don't want to lose him for nothing. I also don't think the Flames can really sign another player going into his 30s to a long term deal with a high cap hit. Trading him would just be an unfortunate necessity.

I would do #1 absolutely. Getting out of Markstrom contract without having to take salary back? Yes please! Wolf is ready and Vladar is solid as a backup or even a 1B starter.

I don’t know about any of you, but I don’t see a rebound coming from Markstrom.

Hmm, hockey's a weird game, look at Bob. How many wrote Bob off?

I think he will be better but closer to average and not close to elite like he was a season ago. I think the backup may play more next season. I’m

I think Markstrom, Kadri and Huberdeau will all have strong seasons at some point, but they'll have by and large bad contracts. For Kadri and Huberdeau, this is practically by design, since they were meant for short term success.

I would do 1 and 2... Make the picks and shark a centre for next to nothing after free agency hits along the lines of bjorkstrand, burns, or Pacioretty.
Imagine having 3 top 20 picks in this draft and going to get a couture for free? Ya, the team is old, but they will be young soon.

It’s even weirder when you play goal.
