Wow. Pridham is a very well-respected up-and-comer in the league. Has been Toronto's salary cap compliance guy for the last few years, and that's not an easy job.

I like this.

Interesting. Given he's Toronto's AGM I'm surprised I haven't heard much about this guy. Worked for the NHL for a long time and is supposedly a salary cap expert having worked in the NHL registry.

He seems like a great guy to have as part of the management team, but with a seemingly lack of player evaluation/scouting I have questions about him in the GM role. Although maybe the GM role is more about managing others around you that are experts in those areas rather than making specific player evaluation decisions.

Certainly would be an interesting choice, might be a very good option considering some of the terrible contracts we are dealing with right now.

Pridham worked for NHL Central Scouting for 15 years.

Did not know that when I heard the Toronto guys talk about him they talked about how he was a cap expert only. Not sure why they didn't talk about that background, they painted him as solely a cap guy.

Seems like a sharp guy. I like the way Maloney is running this search. Cast a wide net, gather as many impressions as you can about where the team is at and where it could go. Take advantage of the opportunity to see your organization through the eyes of as many smart people from outside as you can. Even if you go back to an internal hire, the insights you've gathered will help chart the course for the next 3-5 year window.

From quickly glancing Leafs Reddit it sounds like losing Pridham would be a big loss to the organization.

It would be best to kick them while they are down and hire him as well to send that fanbase into deeper depression.

on the 32 thoughts podcast Friedman he says Flames are moving on to phase 2 of the search were they narrow down the list and bring people in for interviews

says he has heard Bergevin. mentioned Hunter again. wondered about Ray Whitney because of history with Maloney. Been told by a couple of people not to discount internal candidates of Conroy and Pascal.

If those are the names I would just go with Conroy.

I'm glad the Flames are finally doing the more intensive search. It is important the Flames get the right hires so they can maximize the results. The Flames had too many misteps and didnt get enough out of the core to move us further into the playoffs. The Flames need a guy with a plan. No more patching holes Flames need an identity.

I’ll say what I do like about Bergevin is he’s a cowboy who will go where no one else dares. The problem is he has no forward vision of building a sustainable winner. He’s an ####### who will deal non compliant players to win now. Not my cup of tea as anyone needs to have a longer term vision. But interesting guy.

I hope the new GM convince the owners that the rebuild is the best way to have a contender team for few years. Otherwise it doesn't matter who is GM as the team will always an average team which may win the cup when all other 31 teams fails big time.

As a scout, or was he a numbers guy there too?

I think part of the requirement will be to give it a shot for another year from the sounds of it. This team is a pretender given what we seen last year but it really comes down to what’s the organizations goal. Hope they come to their senses and look to the rebuild in short order.

Flames needed an identity. Florida did a great job of finding players who were great players not happy, or playing up to potential on other teams. Grabbing a few former first round draft picks from other teams was a shrewd way to build a, "win now" team. Florida had a plan and it is working for them, They also have a way of making some of those players feel more confident, building them up and making them feel like world beaters.

Ray Whitney? What’s the story there? Is that out in left field or is it just me?
