One thing I noticed - Bouchard is a horrible D on the defensive side. Guy is a major liability (regardless of offensive capabilities).

I do find it interesting that the Leafs lose and all the talk is about blowing it up. Oilers lose in the same round, give up 5 goals in 3 games and its all 'just wait until next year'. Matthews and Marner are younger than McDavid and Draisaitl.

Well yeah. It's not if, but when, and how many.

And potentially just one with the two of them.
Draisaitl has two years left on his deal, I don't think they will let him go into the final year without an extension.
Does he stay?

I hope so. He had a great look last night with his hood up during interviews. Classy fellow.

They are going to have to shed a big contract or two this off season. The only big ones without a NMC are Draisaitl (10 team list) and Ekholm. Oh, and Campbell (also 10 team list). The other contracts they could trade are all $3M or less and don’t make a big enough dent.

How? They would have to make him the highest paid player in the NHL surpassing whatever Matthews gets. Signing him means they won't be able to re-sign McDavid (have to imagine he is their #1 priority) and the Kings have set themselves up to take a big run where he will be able to join his girlfriend in LA. He just doesn't look like a loyal type of player and I couldn't really fault any player for wanting to get out of that organization and market. They will get a great return for him if they move him next offseason but the Oilers will find a way to screw that up.

Vegas owned Edmonton on mother's day and I didn't notice one "whose your mama" Oilers joke.

They'll both command 15+ million per season. Part of me hopes they re-sign because they're getting older and the cap isn't going up the way the league is expecting. So once they start regressing they'll have a Toews and Kane situation but with 0 cups and a greater percentage of the cap tied up in two players. But it will also be hilarious if they bolt for greener pastures. So it's actually kind of a win win. Their window was pretty much this year, and maybe next, if they can coerce an older player into a "front office" job to free up cap space. Otherwise they won't be able to ice a full roster.

I'm sure they can sign both of them if they want.
I do agree that Draisaitl will want a big contract. He's been underpaid on this one so will want to cash in on the next one.

I've felt for a few years that Edmonton would have been better to trade Draisaitl for a massive return and build a deep team around McDavid.
They'd probably have a cup by now.
The rest of their team just can't play and even under perform to their own abilities because they spend all season with no real structure or tactics aside from get it to those 2 & try to draw penalties.
This is why you see players leave them and actually do ok on other teams when coaching & hockey structure are in place.
Until they change how they approach everything; they won't win.
So the delisional comments about just running it back again are very comforting.

There is a lot of hilarity in this, but I love the fact they signed Campbell to a big contract and despite Skinner getting pulled multiple times, would never start Campbell and now are still having questions about their net going forward

The Oilers are going to have a problem THIS off-season with Bouchard needing a new contract.
I imagine he gets at least 6 Bouch Bombs
Jesus they also have Neal's buyout for two more seasons at $2 million per

With Skinner getting a raise, they have 7.6M committed to goaltending for the next 3 seasons.

That probably ends up being pretty league average if I had to guess? But it sure doesn't represent quality goaltending. I can't believe they never game Campbell a start
