No one should be surprised that he is a Hart candidate. The guy scored over 100 points as a 24 year old while also being a pain in the ass to play against. He helped Gaudreau to 115 points and helped make Lindholm a 40 goal scorer. I don't understand why so many people underrated him. He was the best player on the Flames last season and was the team MVP in my opinion, so developing a year later into a top 3 league MVP isn't a stretch.

I appreciate your opinion but Gaudreau was the team MVP and drove that line, Chucky is a better overall player this year though and I suspect he's only going to get better the next few years, what a disheartening steal by Florida.

"He'll be lucky to hit 70 points again during his career without Johnny and Lindholm!"
"Definitely NOT a 100 point winger".
"Tired of his antics!".
Ah Tkachuk, big ups to you. Some great quotes, looking back in hindsight at the trade.
McD's trophy to take once again. But I'm honestly happy about Tkachuk getting the nod. Elite AF.

Tkachuk had an NHL career-high 109 points (40 goals, 69 assists) in 79 games for the Florida Panthers, topping 100 points and 40 goals for the second straight season. He led Florida in assists, points, plus-minus rating (plus-29), penalty minutes (123), even-strength points (72), power-play points (36) and shots on goal (322) and tied Aleksander Barkov for the team lead with six game-winning goals.

"To be honest, I think that's more of a July 10, August 1 thing to think about," Tkachuk said. "That's just not even … our team doesn't, we're not caught up in the individual stuff. Maybe other teams are. That's a thing I'll look back on in the summer.
"It's pretty cool. But [I] looked at my phone right after the game, I got 10 times as many texts after the win than about the award. So, that just shows the people closest to me, that's all we care about. It's about continuing this run."

When they were together, Johnny looked like a better player but that may be because they run the plays through Johnny most of the time
You are absolutely correct that Tkachuk helped Johnny and Lindholm. More than the other way around, especially Lindholm

Brad really screwed up giving Tkachuk a bridge deal.

Should he have traded him then?
What makes you think a max deal was available then, and at what price range based on his performance at the time?

I'd give it to Pastrnak. His highlight reel this year is insane. But we all know who will get it.

It wasn't their worst statistical season by a long-shot. But this is the worst season to be a Flames fan I've ever had.

Pasta should win but he won’t.
McDavid put up a ton of goals this year. Florida got into the playoffs on Tkachuk’s back.
But Pasta was far and away the leader in scoring on a team that was one of the best ever in the regular season.

That's the point where everything went wrong for Treliving. The cap situation at the time was his own doing and he should have tried harder to unload some salary cap to make a long term deal viable. Still what's done is done so it's best to just move on and hope the next GM is a little better at managing contracts.

All stories have Chucky wanting a long term deal at the time.
The worst rumour (many saying it’s true) is Treliving wanting to keep Frolik which resulted in cap issues.
I’m sick to my stomach thinking right now the Flames could have had Benny, Chucky and Johnny locked up for years to come.
Sure there will be those who point to last year and say that core could not have won a cup but as we all know it takes several years to win it all.

“All stories” = Ruzicka’s way after the fact story, and he wasn’t even around then.
There’s nothing else other than imagination. I don’t think Chucky takes more than a 5 year deal then. He got 4. He was itching for UFA all along.
You really need to show your work on your rumours. Everything seems to circle on CP. Theory becomes rumour becomes “reports”. There’s zero evidence of Tkachuk wanting a long term deal back then, and even less that they were even close.

Not a popular opinion i realize, but McDavid should win this thing in a unanimous vote.
The highest point total in almost 30 years alone is enough, but to do it with a very average supporting cast past Draisaitl and a couple others, makes it a stone cold lock. McDavid scored more goals than Pastrnak as well.
Tkachuk finishes 2nd IMO. Rightfully so.

Literally the reason people here want Pasternak to win is because he isn't an Oiler. Let's not pretend there is otherwise a legit argument for McDavid to not win . You don't score 64 goals, 150+ points for the highest point total in 3 decades, and not win the damn Hart. You just...don't.

All the points and still couldn't win the division. He can have the Hart but he doesn't have heart.

He also doesnt play goal or on the blueline.
No he is not the most complete player, especially in the regular season, but to suggest that missing the division title is on him is silly.
Flames gave up fewer goals and werent even within sniffing distance, and everyone knows how much goaltending cost this club the last season.

Nope. I have been told over and over by media and fans that he graces the ice in every rink he steps on. He's good but he's a robot and a miserable one at that. He's no good, he's no fun, and he's not a leader.
