This was crazy awkward. They thought they were bringing Jon Morosi on who George has worked with a bit in the past. When they took the call, they introduced him as Jon Morosi and the guy corrected them as darock mentioned and said "It's Jon Heyman". George and Matt seemed to think it was a joke and Morosi was impersonating Heyman because they laughed and George said the Aaron Judge to the Giants thing. This is straight up a mock of Heyman because last year he incorrectly tweeted that Aaron (Arson) Judge was going to the Giants, got flustered, said he jumped the gun, and then deleted tweets relating to it. George and Matt kept laughing thinking it was still Morosi doing an impression, Heyman said "Never again" and hung up, and then George and Matt were confused and eventually realized they had actually been talking to Jon Heyman, not Jon Morosi. Big live radio whoops.

That is actually hilarious if they did that.

Go for broke and make a weekly show called "HEY! MAN!" where they get a rando reporter on who flubbed in the past and make fun of them for it. Probably get a few weeks of material worth at least before it dries up.

Layoffs at The Athletic. This doesn't sound good for subscribers, or their NHL writers. Wonder how this is all going to shake out for Flames coverage and NHL in general.

The NFL and English Premier League dominate reader interest, it said, and staffing for those leagues remains mostly unchanged. Because NHL and Major League Baseball audiences are more local, those leagues will have some beats eliminated.

However rabid it may be, Calgary is obviously not a big market so this looks ominous for Julian McKenzie. He's done a good job covering the Flames so it would be a shame if he lost his job. However, he has editing and podcasting experience, so maybe that'll help him?

In terms of the NHL, hopefully they don't just fall back on Down Goes Brown and Lebrun's filler pieces. I only pay $2/month for the Times and Athletic, but even that is too much for the Leafs/national coverage.

TSN 1260 - Edmontons only sports only radio station just went off the air permanently today.

Tough time to be in that industry. They didn’t have the rights to the oilers but with the changes at 960, I wonder how well they are doing financially.

thats really too bad
CHED is good entertainment to tune into after an Oiler loss but I found 1260 to be different. I enjoyed listening to that station from time to time in the mornings

1260 not being the rights holder allowed them to be a little more realistic than CHED at times. I didn't listen but too bad.

I wonder what Gregor is going to do with his afternoon show? He owned it outright and basically just bought time from the station. Does it move over to DFO?

I think a lot of these guys end up on pod casts in Edmonton. I enjoyed being able to laugh at their delusion at times driving in my vehicle. Don't think I'll seek them out in podcasts. Have to think the Fan can't go more than a couple more years even with the broadcast rights.
