I believe I still have some rapid tests around here somewhere that I could do if needed

But if there is one thing I would hope everyone sticks with - it is STAY HOME FROM WORK IF YOU ARE SICK. If I see one doofus in the office while sick I will lose it.

Its happened at my work already, full on cold symptoms only for them to go home and test positive. It spread to a bunch of others. Luckily I was working from home that day.

I have two different types of rapid tests. Not sure when I should just toss them. On my last 'Vid experience (last summer) I wasn't too sure so tested with each to "make sure" I was indeed entitled to the Supersize Man Cold of '22.

Can I just ask, are you repeatedly calling it “the ‘vid” for some particular reason?

Calling it The 'Vid just cos. Instead of C19. or Covid. or Covid19. Or Wuhan Virus. Everyone knows what it means at this point, regardless of how each individual may feel about it. Do you associate my reference to "'Vid" with something and if so why?

Combined with Mancold it looks like minimization and dismissal of something that is still seeing 1/4 of peak icu and hospitalizations

Basically what GGG said, and that it looks like some strange mocking of the person who contracted covid because maybe they said, “I caught the ‘vid”, but nobody except you knows this.

Also it sounds like when someone says “vacay” instead “vacation”, but at least that has the benefit of using fewer letters and syllables. Going with “the ‘vid” sounds really odd and makes no sense.

Not only ICU stuff, but people are still ending up with long-covid even from the very mild infections.

I'm not sure what estimates are in Canada for the cost of long-covid, but it has been estimated they could be $3.7 trillion in the US.

Oddly annoying phrasing of Covid, if nothing else. I mean if it's to shorten it "the 'Vid" is eight key strokes including the space and apostrophe, while "Covid" is six.

wow that all went a different direction than I thought... and perhaps the audience here is looking for something in my statements that I didn't intend.

so...
1. The person was smart enough to stay home when sick instead of spreading it. Check. good move. I supported PeteMoss' posting in this.

2. As I mentioned *I* haven't heard in my circle of family, friends, and extended work colleagues in many MANY companies, of anyone even talking about doing a Covid19 test since before Christmas. Consider it anecdotal if you wish. Likely safe to say it isn't a topic that arises much anymore and that includes folks that have every shot/booster available to unvaccinated. Perhaps some circles it's still commonly discussed??

3. My reference to Supersize ManCold was being a smart@$$ - and not intended at all to belittle the impact to the many who had poor outcomes. Wasn't my intent and yeah in retrospect I can understand some people wouldn't like it. Both times I had Covid19 I had to deal with comments regarding a mancold, but shrugged it off because I knew it was that persons attempt at humor, which I understood despite feeling awful. First time I suffered with it for nearly 2 months before a long slow recovery. That sucked, a lot.

4. Yes I know a number of people that self proclaimed "I got The 'Vid" (or some variation thereof). It seemed like a common reference to me; clearly not.

4. Not that it should matter but yes I certainly do know a number of persons who have had varying degrees of outcomes from Covid19, including long-term, some potentially permanent, and more than 1 death. It's been very serious for some. Also have friends/family who have been front-line medical providers and seen the grim reality.

So... as the title of this thread includes "... moving on".... I'll leave it at that.

'nuf said.

No worries. I just didn't like the term, sounds silly and nothing more meant on my part. But I did see that others suggested there may be some "dismissive sentiment" attached to what people call Covid and although I didn't pick on on that from your posts, I think people's backs are up because there's many that do like to belittle and dismiss Covid with cute/dimissive nicknames for it.

Typically anti vax/QAnon types.

Nobody gets on the pay no mind list faster than those who constantly use their "clever" little nicknames; 'Vid, the Rona, the jab, Nutley, Turdope, Mcdiver etc... all just terrible. And makes you frankly sound so...dumb, that and/ or a Qanon.

We were all away for a family vacation in early April, half of us came home with Covid, including the Mother In Law who got it for the first time. My wife who had avoided it until Dec '22 got it again. Nothing more then mild cold like symptoms for anyone.

Over the last few years I’ve not heard one person use the term ‘vid. Ever. Until now. I don’t like it.

Do you say The Influenza Virus each time? Or do you just say the flu?

It's been established that the nickname is the rona.

By who? Covid is the most common term, becuase it doesn't sound like someone is trying to make a witty name for a hockey player. Use it. Love it.

I remember my grandfather tell me people started calling the Spanish flu "lady" because of a rumor that it started from a french hooker who traveled to Madrid. Hey buddy, you coughed! do you have the lady?....so dumb.

Rona? I've seen that a handful of times on the Internet, but in real life it has been called Covid 99% of the time it's brought up. Maybe it depends on family/friend circles that you're in, I guess.
