Damn right there is a lot to respect about it. But it feel to me as if these people also don't want to hear about ways to improve.

But I get where you're coming from, its probably mostly the money. I'm just saying that there is more nuance to it than most people really consider.

I just dont think that people understand how much oil goes into products that they take for granted every day.

They aren’t wearing it for that though. You don’t see people worldwide singling out Oil & Gas as the thing they love because it improves their teeth brushing experience.

I love cookies. If it’s electric ovens and natural resource baking sheets that gets them here I’m not going out wearing an I Love Coal Power & Aluminum shirt.

Got to use a Laserscan finally on a project that I'm working on for something useful. Have to say that it's pretty cool to be able to see a 110 year old facade inside a Construction model. Still pretty impressed with how craftsman from that era built things given what they had to work with.

When American Sniper first came out I was already uncomfortable with the idea of the movies premise. I didn't quite view the Americans as the outright hostile and Evil forces and play, as I do now, and so now when I see clips of that movie I'm really uncomfortable with it. I know Eastwood has claimed that it's not a glorification of War, but it's so obviously is to me. A really awful movie about an awful person.

Some people think older tech is better, like vinyl, or stick shift, but nobody ever longs for the days of using a ball mouse. Now I wonder if there is some weird community on the internet obsessed with those frustrating things.

I don’t. I’ve had a manual-transmission car in my garage for pretty much all of my >45 years of driving; I still do. I taught my wife and our kids to drive manuals and the kids have all owned them. I know many people who also drive them. They’re still current, although maybe less popular than decades ago.

Also it is a North American v Europe issue


I would argue that the vast majority of non-commercial vehicles are automatic in NA.

Whether we like it or not manual transmission in North America is old tech, hence the rise of paddle shifters on automotive vehicles

There are potential benefits to either of those technologies. But no one can claim a benefit to ball mice. No one ever switched to laser and said, no, I'd prefer my old ball one, switch it back.

Also, these are the only vehicles left you can get in stick, but I'd guess 90% of sales are autos of most of these. Even in Europe the change is happening rapidly.

I have used a thumb-ball mouse for years. I absolutely love it.

I think I used the paddle shifter on my then-newer car a few times the first week or so of ownership... that was ~5years ago. Kinda forgot about it actually. Is it actually practical to use the paddle shifter on your steering wheel? Who actually uses them?
