Darn, Felix/Shapo came back from 9-7 down in the match super-breaker and had a match point at 10-9, but end up losing 12-10 to Rojer/Arevalo. Earlier today, Gaby and Luisa lost to the top seeds Gauff and Pegula in women's doubles.
That leaves Leylah as the last person flying the Canadian flag in Madrid in doubles along with Taylor Townsend.

My goodness, Zhang does it again, he's taken out Shapo, Norrie, and now Taylor Fritz. He saved three match points in the 3rd set tie-break taking it 10-8 (overall 3-6 7-6 7-6)

So as I type, Andy Murray is taking on Gael Monfils at a challenger event in France. If interested, click on the link below:

Edit: Andy won the match rather easily 6-3 6-2

Emma will miss most of the summer (including Wimbledon) as she has opted for surgery on her wrists and ankle.

In more positive news, Leylah and Taylor advance to the semi-finals in women's doubles 6-0 7-6 over Hsieh/Strycova

Aryna Sabalenka continuing her fine tennis form in 2023 taking care of Maria Sakkari 6-4 6-1. Feel bad for Maria, until she can conquer the nerves that creep in during these tough matches, it's going to be a tough slog.

Sakkari's "hit the ball and hope it lands somewhere deep in the court" strategy really doesn't seem to work against top and in-form players... Elite athleticism just is not enough.
Anyway Iga looks kind of unplayable at the moment (clay court season, go figure) so it probably doesn't matter who else wins what.

I think her issues are largely mental. She seems to be fine until she gets deep into tournaments and then goes full Shapovalov as a lot of her losses are straight set, barely competitive.

Well, Jan-Lennard Struff is making good use of his LL spot as he just sent Oikos packing in three sets. The funny thing is that he takes on Aslan Karatsev in the semi-final and it was Karatsev who beat Struff in the final round of Madrid qualifying.
Edit: As big as the Struff serve is along with his forehand, it was his backhand especially down the line that won him the match today.

Struff on a good roll. The round of 16 match where he beat Cachin in three sets was one of the better matches I have seen this season.

Two breadsticks delivered by Iga to Kudermetova suggests that Sabalenka is in tough in the Madrid final.

Meanwhile, Borna Coric played a very good match in my opinion pushing Charlie to produce some excellent tennis. In the end, Charlie wins 6-4 6-3. Even when you break Charlie, he's like ho-hum, I'll just break you the very next game and crush your spirit.
