It's only game 1, and the Panthers are riding a serious high after beating Boston, but is it just possible that they finally found their game from last year? They look really good, but now have that feather in their cap of winning a hard playoff series against a serious cup contender. I think all they needed was that belief that was maybe lacking all year after losing handily to Tampa Bay last year.
The team isn't that different to last year, just a few different supporting pieces and one major change out of a star player. I'm getting vibes of a serious run from this team.

Not really. If you love the player you can always cheer for them unless they go to a rival. It's better than just cheering for a jersey, probably more pure and humanistic as well considering the money and corporate interests that run teams these days.

Maybe we’re just spooling up a bunch of bad luck and bad breaks, then we’ll get hit with like 5 straight Cups with Iggy as coach.

Tkachuk playing the way he is right now makes them a very different team than last year all by himself.
He is a freakin horse this playoff.

Nope screw that. I cheer for the Flames because it's my hometown and the city I'm from, wasn't like I just choose them randomly.
Bennett I had a bit of a soft spot for because he kind of was dealt a bad hand in Calgary. Same thing with Gio...no hard feelings there.
Tkachuk and Fox can screw right off though.

Florida also isn’t playing a much stronger championship team that decided to save it all up for the POs. Don’t forget they lost to the cup runner-up.

I am sort of like that except just more ambivalent towards ex-Flames. I don’t even follow Gio (no one wants to change my name, mods???)

Yeah I agree, he changed the whole complexity. Florida had nobody like him in the playoffs last year, right now he is in the conversation for the Conn Smythe.

I was told it was a run and gun team that had no system.

At the time the trade was made, I was laughing hysterically, believing that we had fleeced the Panthers.
How wrong I was.
Between that and the Bennett trade, we basically got raided.
This is so hard to watch.

Tkachuk...not a chance. He's all lip service, and if he wanted to be here long term he'd still be here long term.

People change their minds all the time. We don't know what he was thinking a few years ago. I don't see why we should assume that he was being dishonest. Even Backlund apparently asked for a trade, so people's minds change as information changes.

I’d say having Tkachuk as the defecto leader (vocally and on the ice) is a huge culture shift for the team. Barkov is great (albeit reserved, it seems), but having a player like Chucky who is determined and has a swagger, boosted the team as a whole. In my humble opinion, that change/swap of a major player is immense. Especially since Tkachuk will carry any line he is on and play almost any style of game, skill or rough.
