They're trying to break their own record of 690 set in 2021

I was curious, so I looked up Calgary specific numbers today.

In the last year (Apr 24 2022-2023) there were roughly 2100 "break and enter: home" coded calls

In the same time period, there were roughly 30 "break and enter: home invasion" coded calls.

I'd guess the 30 home invasions were mostly drug rips, grow shows as they used to be called and a few domestics

But again, most of these are gangster shootings in urban areas or the "Black Belt" South.
If you compare ten states that are most similar in population, culture, and demographics to the ten provinces you get 6 mass shootings this year:
Bc= Oregon: 0
Alberta =Utah: 1
Sask/manitoba=Dakotas: 0
Ontario =New York state: 5
Quebec=Mass: 0
Atlantic=Maine, vt, NH, RI: 0

Maybe you can quibble over the comparisons, but i think it's pretty fair. Obviously quebec is difficult to compare.
Yes some of these states have strict gun control, I think Mass and NY, but then new york also has the most shootings so...

OK, lets forget the mass shootings for a moment and just look at gun deaths overall and use your comparison states, it's hard to find data on one site but sniffing around I think I'm close

Bc (7)= Oregon: (191)
Alberta (9) =Utah: (123)
Sask/manitoba (12)=Dakotas: (74)
Ontario (19) =New York state: (316)
Quebec (5)=Mass: (69)
Atlantic (4)=Maine, vt, NH, RI: (127)

And your wrong about NY, it actually has the 4th lowest gun deaths per capita in the US, #1 is "you didn't guess it"... Massachusetts.

The highest gun deaths per capita are Mississippi and Louisiana, and Texas leads the way by a country mile in overall deaths

Oh, and keep in mind 80% of Canadian gun deaths are gang related and from illegal gun smuggled into Canada from our wonderful neighbour

God you spout such bolloxs, crime related mass shootings, white as well as black, make up 30% of the total, the vast majority, 50% are domestic 20% random stranger killings

“The neighbors walked over and said … ‘Hey man, can you not do that, we’ve got an infant in here trying to sleep’ or whatever,” Capers said. “They went back in their house and then we have a video of him walking up their driveway with his AR-15.”
the result? 5 dead, including an 8 yr old. For asking someone to stop firing an AR-15 in his yard after 11 pm.

Jesus. Wtf. For asking a very reasonable request, perhaps very politely, and your whole family is shot down in return.

Three children survived the shooting. Two of the women who were killed were found lying on top of the young children in a bedroom, “trying to protect them,” Capers told The Post by phone from the scene.
Horrifying. Is he still at large?

Rethinking my trip to Oregon next month.

Oh, don't worry, these are edge cases. The vast majority of American cities are super safe!

Alberta is always compared to Texas or Colorado, never Utah.
Bc is usually compared to Washington, although Oregon does have stoners.

this is the part that gets me, "Oropeza frequently shot the gun in his yard"

Is Texas that crazy that you're allowed to shoot a gun in the front yard?

Apparently. This is a quote from a neighbor:
Quote:
“When I heard those gunshots, I didn’t think anything of it because in this neighborhood everyone has guns. Every weekend you hear gunshots,” she said in an interview in Spanish. “People shoot in their backyards, after they drink alcohol, men take out guns at house parties and shoot the ground.”

If it's on your own property, I'm assuming yes. That state is insane. Everyone and their grandmother is packing down there.

This quote blows my mind:

Like a real life Simpsons Homer buys a gun.
