Well, if anyone thinks Sutter is NOT the issue or at the very least a big part of the issue, I have a nice island to sell you.

That's a very one-eyed myopic look at the situation. Do realize that Markstrom had a better GAA in that span? or that the Flames scored almost 2X as much per game with Vladar in net?
From Nov 27 - Jan 31
Vladar 13 gms - 2.74 GAA - Flames scored 56 goals...4.4 Goals/Game
Markstrom 17 gms - 2.70 GAA - Flames scored 40 goals...2.44 Goals/Game
By your logic, massively struggling goaltending means your teams offense can't even score 2.5 goals per game, while red hot goaltending means your team is scoring 4.4 goals per game. Shame on Sutter for ruining the whole season with his goalie selections over a 9 week period.
|
Weird. It’s almost as if teams play differently when they have the lead. It’s not hard to check their respective splits during that timeframe.
When the games were tied
Vladar had a .935 SV%
Markstrom had a .892 SV%
When the game was within 1 goal
Vladar had a .916 SV%
Markstrom had a .889 SV%
The bulk of Markstroms saves during that time came after he spotted the opposing team a multiple goal lead which inflated his already poor SV%. Whereas Vladar only struggled when the team was winning by multiple goals.

Sutter is part of it, but he also did the best job anyone could be expected to do with the talent he was given.
When he had Gaudreau and Tkachuk, he won the division and had home ice in the first two rounds.

Edmonton realized Campbell was trash and rode Skinner into the playoff.
Sutter realized Markstrom is trash and rode him into missing the playoffs and now hiding from the media like a coward. Darryl never takes responsibility that is one that is certain with him.
People's keep crying about the goaltending he had a choice eveb if the stats sucked to ride a goalie who won games but he didn't.

I always get the impression that Sutter cares more about making a point than getting points.

Oh I whole heartedly disagree that Sutter did the best job anyone could. He either purposefully deployed things that didn't work for far too long or stubbornly misused what he had at his disposal out of spite. Either way, Sutter definitely hamstrung this team in many ways . Best job? Dude was operating at a cool 25% IMO. He got lost in his own mind of "us aga8nst the world" turned it into "the world vs me"

LOL. What does any of that have to do with your original post? ...you know Markstrom "immensely struggling" while Vladar was "red hot", costing the Flames the season over a 9 week period because of Sutter's goaltending choices.
I gave very specific, relevant facts to support my argument against what you posted originally...deflecting isn't going to work here...both goalies stopped the puck at similar rates in that span and it clearly came down to the imbalance in the game to game Flames offense (or lack of) for their difference in win/loss record.
As a side note...during that 9 week period, Markstrom gave up more than 3 goals only three times (5,4,4) in 17 games, while Vladar gave up more than 3 goals three times too (5,5,4), but in only 13 games. Your "immensely struggling"/"red hot" viewpoint is clearly way off base and that's what I posted about.

The splits are incredibly relevant to the discussion and highlight EXACTLY why one goaltender was winning hockey games while the other wasn’t. If you want to ignore them then have at it.

Of all the things Sutter is, cowardly and irresponsible are not among them.

You ever hear sutter take responsibility? Hiding from the disaster he created?
He's coward be a man and step up. He loves calling out players to be men and step to but when it comes to him he hides.

Yes
I’ve heard him take responsibility
The disaster you pin completely on him has many finger prints on it
Did it ever occur to you that he was asked to withhold comment till the GM position is filled? He is under contract to the organization you know.
To call him a coward is laughable
At his age, with all he has accomplished and been responsible for in his professional and personal life. Cowardly and irresponsible are terms clueless individuals would use to describe him.
It’s clear who the coward is in this mess, the keyboard warrior.
Im willing to bet Sutter would eat you for lunch and nail your pocket protector to his mailbox for all to see.

Markstrom is a modern day Dominik Hasek once the other team has built up a 3 goal lead. He slams the door shut. Unfortunately it is usually hard to comeback when you are down by multiple goals. But after spotting 3 goals on the first 9 shots, you can almost guarantee that Markstrom will stop the next 21 shots.

Can you show me examples of him taking ownership?
Who cares about his age he has been a coward is a coward.
You want him to physically assault me? Will that make you and Baxter feel better?

Lol mom jokes good one.
Lay it out and show proof of Sutter taking responsibility ever. Show proof you don't have it that's why you resort to attacks.
Typical behaviour of people like you.
