National day of mourning for workers injured or killed while on the job. RIP to them and the one guy I've worked with who passed away from a heart attack while on site.

If only we had an ongoing thread of important dates where this information could have been posted. Slacker OP not doing their job.

Handing in a two week notice after working someplace a long time is such a bitter sweet feeling.

Personally I've known 1 person die (heart attack), 2 people receive severe electrical burns from high voltage electricity and I've been sent to the hospital after a shock myself. I'd venture a guess a day like today isn't as impactful to some office staff who don't deal with these hazards (not pointing a finger at you, just a generality) but after visiting my one friend who almost lost an arm from high voltage contact, and seeing him in the hospital a few days afterward, today hits home for me. That friend could have easily not made it through that incident, very fortunate he's still around.

A long time ago when I was ... I dunno, 19? A friend of mine went to their culinary school or baking school I cant recall. I went with her on the orientation day, posing as a student. I introduced myself as a recovering drug addict off the street and regaled the people their through out the afternoon about my harrowing life on the streets. It was entertaining to live new identity for a bit

I love it when you let this ripper belch go and it’s going to be so bad you think you’re going to barf; and then you taste it and it’s like being in an oral sex threesome with Koolaid man and Strawberry Shorthcake.
So tasty.

Prosciutto package label: "Pull tab"

*pulls tab, tab comes off in hand*

"DoubleF, pass me some fancy ham."

*stares at tab in drunken confusion*

They initially partied ways due to that incident, but in the years after they had no interest in getting back together from either side. They did perform together a few years ago at the Junos and suggested that they probably should have done one last tour together after seeing how much the full band meant to their fans across Canada.

But it was not a case of Steven Page trying to get back in and the band not letting him. It was mutual after the initial break up.

I mean that's probably 80% of our user base. CP skews very high to the educated, white collar side of the work force.

Hey no worries, I never took it as disrespect. I tried to convey that in the post but maybe it didn't come across as well as I hoped.

We all know people with these dangerous jobs as friends, family or whoever they may be. It's a good day for everyone to reflect on their own job, and their friends and family too.

I never want to see another person mangled like my friend with his arm again in the hospital, but realistically it will absolutely happen again during my working career.

I hate to be 'that cynical guy' but man....#### happens.

You can be the most safety conscious individual or organization, but....bad things still happen.

I just explained the 2004 Cup finals to my son. I was sure to show him the obvious tripping call TB got away with, leading directly to the game winning goal. What an absolute miscarriage of justice the NHL is famous for. The Flames were robbed in 04. I still remember that series/year/team as fondly as I do any Jets team and think they deserved much better.

You're bang on correct here, this stuff is still going to happen, but we should try to mitigate it. Unfortunately, some people don't see the need for improvements.

Take for example the friend of mine with the arm getting burned. Him and his team made a big mistake at the site they were on and it led to a very bad outcome. Fast forward ~2 years and the company my friend worked for no longer contracted work from that site. The site brought in a new contractor with fewer qualifications and one of their employees was killed working on the same equipment that hurt my friend.

All of this happened at the same place here in Calgary, and nothing was done by the building owner to prevent another incident. Maybe they have changed things since the 2nd contractor died, but I doubt it.

I won't share all the details here but both incidents happened at the same high profile building, if anyone wants to know more feel free to PM me. I haven't been in one of their buildings since the fatality, because the ownership really dropped the ball
