Unfortunately, a former star hockey player has more sway than your average lunatic in Canada. Although I will admit it's encouraging that I rarely hear about him or any of these nutjobs unless I specifically seek out the information.
Fleury obviously has the history of trauma, substance abuse, and maybe even minor concussions/CTE stuff as underlaying causes but what the heck happened to Sale? The former Olympic darling!

Craig Simpson got smart and bailed on her a few years ago, and Pelletier bailed before that.

Tessa Virtue, please stay sane!

I get your point but there are lot of people that have histories of trauma both physical and mental.

I've said it before, but Sheldon Kennedy is a force for good and experienced a #### tonne of trauma.

That's true, but not everyone has the tools or support to get through it well. I also knew his cousin back in the day when Fleury still played with the Flames and none of the James stuff was public. He told me some pretty sad stuff about Fleury growing up, so I think there is more trauma and ego issues that started pretty much from birth. It didn't sound like a very functional family.

Pure speculation on my part, but I imagine it was something along the lines of a life crisis and the person she leaned on for support was friend and fellow Olympian Theo Fleury. I don't know what their relationship was like pre-Battle of the Blades, but I'm sure they became close.

As has been mentioned she has talked about a pseudo "life coach" coming into her life around the same time she started mimicking Theo's nuttery. Not to absolve her of her choices, but it feels like she was sucked into that black hole when she was vulnerable.

Or I could just be talking out of my ass.

I know you aren't "supporting him" or "apologizing for him", but he has had ample opportunity to sort himself out.

I’m not buying the notion that his trauma was a factor in Fleury becoming a nut job.

I wonder if the enablers around him leads to a reoccurrence of his addictions. There are certainly enough bad actors out there who'd exploit him until he was of no further use to him.

Theo Fleury @TheoFleury14

I’m looking forward to my new Canadian Communist Network radio that will be permanently installed in my house pumping misinformation and disinformation all day long. We’ve seen this movie before.

How could you possibly not buy that notion?!?!? I was a huge fan and have had to unfortunately move on from him. But using simple reasoning, it would obviously be that trauma that most likely led to where he is.

I'm really glad you're doing well, but childhood trauma and sexual abuse aren't the same thing as beating cancer in terms of ****ing up you brain and your understanding of the world.

he committed suicide after killing his wife and kids. chris' brain was then checked looked at afterwards and, well

The Sports Legacy Institute's post-mortem diagnosis was that Chris Benoit was suffering from a form of brain damage named Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). Dr. Robert Cantu compared the condition of Benoit's brain to a man aged 80 or older with "very severe"#Alzheimer's disease, adding, "His was the most extensively damaged of the brains we have examined so far." According to ESPN, Benoit's brain was "liquefied" by the time police officers found his body, which was only one day after he died.

So I guess the question is, is there room for sympathy for someone who did an unforgiveable monstrous thing, if perhaps maybe they themselves were a victim? Its a touchy subject. But I honestly feel like Benoit is as much a victim as anyone else. This is kind of side tracking things a little more than I intended tho.

“Died” is a polite way to say he murdered his wife and child and then committed suicide. CTE is a mother####er.
