They'll just publicly ask for a trade if this is the case and Darryl isn't removed - which won't be a situation the Flames want to put their brand new GM into.

Is it possible for players to play elsewhere e.g. Sweden while under NHL contract? I assume not, except beer league.

Let them go then or let them sit out. Not a fan of how Sutter coached this team last season but still don’t want the players making organizational decisions. So the team fires Sutter just for said players who wanted him gone to leave in free agency anyways? No thanks. Flames fired Hartley, hired that loser GG for the players and it failed tremendously.

I am a firm believer Sutter is still a good to great NHL coach, this team just flat out sucked last year and it seems some players don’t want to be held accountable for their awful play. They can go play in Columbus with Johnny where no one asks questions about why the team is complete ####.

Well if Gulutzen was such a loser (I agree) with his 45 and 37 win seasons then what is Sutter after getting just 38 wins out of a far superior roster?

Wasn't Johnny, Tkachuk, Monahan and a soon to be Norris Gio on that team?

Ok then completely throw out Darryl's results from the previous year then when he got Vezina level goaltending.

You can't have it both ways.

I’d argue this roster was worse and should have won more games. Was terribly unlucky but still lacked chemistry. The GG teams should have been way better than they were. The Flames should have been contending those years or at least won a round, the roster was good enough but GG could not make an in game adjustment if his life depended on it. Once he left a bunch of guys had career years. He was a terrible hire and next to the Hamonic trade was the biggest reason as to why the previous core was a failure.

It's true though. Goaltending makes a big difference. It's a big problem when your five million dollar starter has a .892 save percentage.

It’s not out of shape. It’s effort.

Pretty obvious.

I get it - he should have traded him such that didn't lose him for nothing. But then they would have lost a different player, like Kylington.
Turns out thought that losing Kylington would have been the right move.

Nobody is passing up millions of dollars because they don’t like a coach.

Darryl had options. He is ultimately the one who elected to keep playing the worst one. He also could have went away from man on man coverage in the defensive zone but chose not to because it worked last year.

The backup was consistently winning games.
The best goaltender not in the NHL was playing in the same city.

Didn't I read that was a GM call to give wolf two years in the AHL? Do you blame Tre for that?

Also Vladar had a .895 save percentage. He was winning games... Until he wasn't.

Vladar didn't lose more than two games in a row at any point during the season. He should have been given a much larger look.

If a big complaint about the coach is that he didn't play a crappy goalie like Vladar more it is pretty clear people are grasping at straws at this point.

The next GM should request permission to fire Sutter if they think it is in the best interests of the team.

Not so sure, they will simply hold out and demand a trade.

The next GM should have total control to create his design/direction of the team.
