Ok then maybe you should have written "lesser of 2 undesirable options"

Dude. It’s a common figure of speech.

So is what I suggested. Either words have meanings or they dont. I think sugesting Rachel is a lesser evil is either coming out of the mouth of a person like Theo Fleury or someone who is ill informed.

Yes and your political leanings aren't bleeding through whatsoever there.
I don't know. She didn't follow through on much last time that was hit on in her campaign. Wasn't a massive detriment, but she proved to be somewhat incompetent. Also impressively poor with PR.
Being a good person doesn't necessarily always translate to good leadership or political prowess. But maybe she's learned a few things from those experiences. If she prevails, I hope that's the case.
Whichever way the election goes, I'm neither hopeful nor confident in either outcome based on the experiences we've had with both candidates.

Not to turn this into the Alberta Politics thread, but...
Quote:
Here’s a look at some of the party’s key platform planks:
A Resource Owners’ Rights Commission to review the royalties oil companies pay to the province, with any amount earned above the current rates going into savings.
A boost in the corporate tax rate to 12 per cent from 10 per cent.
An increase in the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2018.
More tax brackets on high earners than the Tories are proposing: A 12 per cent tax rate on income between $125,000 to $150,000; 13 per cent on income between $150,000 and $200,000; 14 per cent between $200,000 and $300,000 and 15 per cent over $300,000. The NDP also plans to roll back the Tory health levy.
The creation of 2,000 long term care spaces over four years.
A ban on both corporate and union donations to political parties.
|
I don't know if they hit their goal of 2,000 long term car spaces - but she completed the rest of her election planks.

It's called a figure of speech.
Also I have a flair for the dramatic, sue me. (So do you, based on posting history)

Because it’s too much fun to belabour a point:
Q: “Can you provide an example of the phrase, ‘lesser of 2 undesirable options’ being used verbatim ever in history?”
A: “I'm sorry, as an AI language model, I cannot verify if a specific phrase has been used verbatim in history without a specific context or source to look from. However, the phrase "lesser of two evils" has been used in various contexts and situations throughout history, which conveys a similar meaning of having to choose between two undesirable options.”

I can’t believe people spend this much time and energy on Theo. Who cares what he thinks? He isn’t someone to look up to. Ignore him.
Athletes and actors, like everyone, have an opinion. Just because he played in the NHL or someone was on Days of our lives doesn’t mean their opinion should hold any more weight than anyone else’s.
Simply ignore him, the more he is quoted or trending or whatever, then more people read his gibberish.

I think it's just a calgarypuck thing since most of these guys are flames fans. Like, I'm not into hockey at all and the only mention of Theo's name I ever hear is in this thread on CP. He's a giant nothing outside of hockey dudes' minds.

Nobody says the "lesser of 2 undesirable options", nobody.
Everybody says the "lessor of 2 evils", everybody.

Since hockey (and winter sporting, in general) is a cornerstone aspect of Canadian culture there will always be a significant portion of people that pay attention, or even revere, these specific athletes. Theo and Sale make the rounds outside of that culture because of their extreme personalities, and while they are likely forgotten much more quickly than, say, the engaged Flames fan they are monitored beyond the community.
Unfortunately, a former star hockey player has more sway than your average lunatic in Canada. Although I will admit it's encouraging that I rarely hear about him or any of these nutjobs unless I specifically seek out the information.

Like it or not, Theo still represents Calgary to many. I was with a business associate from Florida last week and all he knew was the Stampede, Flames and Theo. He was shocked to hear #14 wasn't in the rafters and I had to explain how he went off the deep end.
Theo will get attention for a long time still.

I’m a consultant and I lead conference sessions. My associate had multiple conversations with Fluery about bringing him in as a keynote speaker. He didn’t understand my objection. I would have refused to do a conference with Theo. I’m glad it didn’t come to that as the idea died.

Yeah. I was a big fan of the player as he was the only reason to watch the team for a while but now he's retired I don't particularly care about his political beliefs and quite frankly that goes for all athletes and celebrities. Most of these people succeeded at life because of their looks or physical gifts and not their intelligence. Not the type of people I would look to for political advice. Anything he tweets or says is as newsworthy to me as some random dude at work.

I worked with a really nice girl a number of years ago and Theo was her idol, she'd read his book multiple times and met him and really related to a lot of the things he'd gone through in her own life. I don't know her anymore but I feel bad for her seeing him go off the deep end like he has, must be frustrating.

I know you can't just give people a total pass on things, but I can't help but feel like the trauma he experienced in his life and the subsequent chronic substance abuse, really affected the pathways in his brain in really negative ways. It's not shocking that he ended up messed up. These ramblings of his are not coming from a healthy person IMO.
I hope he figures stuff out one day, but at this point, he seems way too far gone. Like others, he was my favourite player for years and I was devastated when he left the Flames, more so than any player previously or since. I choose to ignore him now and try to keep his days with the Flames preserved in my own little brain vault.

Ya, I agree that Theo will get all the attention we give him. That’s why I give him none.
