C-U lives like 5 doors down from me, so she is just being neighbourly.
PS She is also going to run for mayor I hear. Saw her at Phil's at 6 AM on a Saturday (kids) plotting with Bronco.

A large number of the people complaining didn't even spend the time reading the 100,000 dollars in answers that the city provided. They are going to spend more time whining at a meeting them it would have taken them to read the answers. If you didn't read the report you should have to speak last.

Admittedly I didn't watch the entirety of this dumpster fire, but from the portion I did see, my favourite speaker by far was the woman opposing the SWBRT who held her iPod headphones up to the mic and used about 1/5 of her allotted speaking time to play a segment of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi". THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. We now live in a world where a pro-car/anti-public transit advocate used an environmentalist protest song to try to support her position.

#readytoengage treating council to her phone playing Big Yellow Taxi #SWBRT before insulting @bpincott

Really? Anti-#SWBRT speaker just played @JoniMitchellcom Big Yellow Taxi. OMG most inappropriate use of that msg @YYC4BRT @iloveyyctransit

I don't know if this ended up being the SW BRT thread, but I found this one to bump. I attended the open house last night for the development of Glenmore Landing and the BRT is basically the thin-edge of the wedge. The plan there is for 4 towers of subsidized housing. When I originally went to the open house, there was a line-up to get in stretching across the parking lot, and judging by the sticky notes people had put for feedback onto the signs I'd say people are not happy with this.
I could be wrong, but it seems like this is virtually done deal. They'll go through the motions and pretend they're listening to residents, but I don't know how seriously they take that.

Are the sticky notes along the lines of "I don't want to have to look at poor people"?

I didn't read all of them (there were a lot!), but people are concerned about congestion, crime, property values and the overall aesthetic/neighbourhood character if I had to generalize.

Was it a sort of generic NIMBY thing? This kinda sounds like some of the comments I heard about the SE leg of the LRT... That it would bring low income and riff raff into those communities, so move further away towards the outer communities to avoid that... etc.

These are items that all should be ignored. The densification of the city has already improved their property values significantly. Dealing with the consequences of the growing city is part of it. If they don’t like it they can move.
As I said in the other thread no one should be able to buy there way out of dealing with the poor. Adding densification to areas which are currently low density and near things like Hospitals and Universities is important.

Well they were literally Post-it notes that they wanted people to put on the signs, so there's not a lot of detail to be had there. I suppose that's generic?

No, it's the aesthetic literally in that the artist renderings looked like massive towers that people just plain didn't like. Comments like "those look like prisons". I wouldn't say that was about poor people?
But honestly...I'm not even ashamed to say that I'm not looking forward to this. Glenmore Landing is a mess already, never mind 4 towers of people there. And yeah, crime and property values are a concern that I think anyone would have.

It is not surprising that the residents of Pumphill, Eagle Ridge and Bayview don't want a few hundred or thousand poors moving into their hood.
