From reading the comments on this site alone, some people love the UCP for throwing the money at the area as a "suck it!" to Edmonton and the rest of the province.

I think that's the attitude many in Calgary are going to take. Since Edmonton is NDP, we'll vote UCP so we get all the money.

Outside of lip service, no way the UCP under Smith is going to help out Edmonton in any way. Not one bit.

The best part of this whole thing for Edmonton is that a complete FU to Edmonton as a city and ignoring Sohi's calls for equal funding will only serve to fire Kaycee Madu and all Edmonton UCP candidates well into the sun come end of May.

Good bye, sweet prince of speeding ticket glory.

So is the 300 mil provincial funding for the infrastructure a part of the budget?

3.2 Bil for Edmonton and 2.9 Bil for Calgary.. or is it on top of it?

Might also be enough to piss of Sherwood Park, which could flip NDP.

No more complaining about property taxes (or to bring back a classic, "Spendshi") if you support the Arena. Deal?

Don't forget the $30-$100M suburban interchanges that are regularly built, of which most citizens won't regularly use (if at all)!

I know that when I give a bully my lunch money with absolutely no resistance, it works out really well because for the rest of the school year he's just really nice and shares his snacks with me and never ever ever demands lunch money from me ever again.

I have no understanding how the UCP plans on paying for all these funding announcements beyond praying for high oil prices. Has anyone compiled a list of announcement/expenses since Smith showed up? It feels like it's been a lot.

I don’t think any party cares about spending anymore. Budgets balance themselves

But you have to vote conservative, we can't afford NDP spending

I can't even imagine the screaming that would be taking place had the NDP just done this deal.

I think the real problem is crippling future administrations from making hard decisions by having to follow a referendum, assuming its binding.

It also spits in the face of elected representatives who are tasked with making these policy changes and effectively circumvents their work.

And knowing the feckless and greasy nature of conservative referendum questions in Alberta, you just know the referendum question will be "DO YOU SUPPORT HIGHER TAXES OR NOT?"

There's democracy. And then there's idiocracy.
