On Twitter giving out free Blue checks to a bunch of people even if you're dead to try and give Blue credibility... what if a porn site that has some kind of community profiles feature creates one for a well known person for free? A Tinder or Grindr profile?
Those don't really map 1:1 since it's a case of an existing account being given additional features, but to me it's the same kind of thing.
If they wanted to give Blue away to some people for free, they can get a coupon or a way to enable it if they so choose.

Interestingly, I heard on 960 this morning Peter Loumbardius say how social media seems to make everyone an expert in everything. People look at the outside and think they understand and they just don't. That is clear in this post and so many others.
I have made my point and either you can accept it or not. I am not building up ultra rich/successful people. I just believe that it takes a lot of things for them to get where they are and hard work is a lot of it. The they are born rich is true in some cases and others it is not. As example my relative comes from a farm life and started with nothing. Are there others that had a head start. Absolutely! They are the bad ones if I read a lot of these posts.
Again, I have had my say.

Peter "Loumbardius" knows a lot about hockey but I'm not sure his musings about social media have much or anything to do with global economics and taxation levels.

Hate speech, disinformation thriving
Quote:
The platform is no longer labelling state-controlled media and propaganda agencies, and will no longer prohibit their content from being automatically promoted or recommended to users. Together, the two changes, both made in recent weeks, have supercharged the Kremlin's ability to use the U.S.-based platform to spread lies and misleading claims about its invasion of Ukraine, U.S. politics and other topics.
Russian state media accounts are now earning 33 per cent more views than they were just weeks ago, before the change was made, according to a report by Reset, a London-based non-profit that tracks authoritarian governments' use of social media to spread propaganda. Reset's findings were first reported by The Associated Press.

Not the point. Everyone thinks they are an expert is the point.

It's going to get far worse with AI soon having the ability to fabricate video convincingly. That day is coming soon.

This is also a trend. If your counter-arguments are always, “not the point”, then perhaps try to be more clear up front and use relevant examples so everyone can be in the same wavelength.

This doesn’t have anything to do with anything else. Nobody is pretending to be an expert, unless you’re expanding the definition in a way that would then include hockey commentators pretending to be an expert on social media or you pretending to be an expert on vaccines.
You’ve shared your opinion, people have pointed out where the holes are. It’s not more complicated than that, no matter how much you’re going to pretend otherwise.

Does this include mr “the data shows that vaccines kill people” or is that person excluded from the above statement.

yes, I realise it's a niche interest but having spent years supervising sex offenders, having to check their computer files etc, I am waiting for the child porn case where none of the child porn is real, how does the law handle that?

I used to get a bit frustrated thinking about all the amazing technological advancements - including space travel, possible first contact moments, etc, that will happen after we're already deceased. I would have enjoyed being able to live through those historic moments. But the way the world is going in recent years, I'm finding I just hope I'm already deceased by the time things get too dystopian. Man the future is beginning to look bleak..

Yep the whole 'live your life as a battery in a pod of gloop while having an imaginary life in the matrix' really doesnt look so bad compared to the bull#### humanity is likely to do to itself

So if someone makes a point that is not relevant to my point the issue is with me for pointing it out? Got it!

Do you want to open this door? Happy to discuss further if you want as what you are saying is not really what I was saying.
There is a difference in having an opinion and claiming to know more than you actually do. This is a discussion board after all.

Ready Player One, the Matrix, and even the damn Truman Show are making simulation life seem downright attractive as our real-life dystopia continues to evolve in reckless fashion.

Please point out instances in this discussion where people have pretended to know more than they do instead of just expressed an opinion.

It just seems like a recurring theme that you think it’s everyone else that is missing the point. Everyone knows understands the point, but you seem stubborn and don’t appear to want to accept their take on it.
It’s just the same, “I know rich guys and they behvior like xyz, so that is how all rich guys are and everyone else is wrong” over and over.

So if you recognize the difference between claiming to be an expert and having an opinion where do you see people claiming to be experts here?

You need to learn about this and understand it, justaguy. "People look at the outside and think they understand", as you said yourself. It seems you just don't understand the political climate that has allowed the rich to conquer those beneath them in a way they historically couldn't.
