This may be 1 of 32 exclusive jobs but with everything that has happened and with a coach who agaitates management and his players I think the candidates we talk with will probably be interviewing us as well.
A meddling owner who hired the coach stars leaving and possibly more on the way out the GM not coming back.

It's goimg to require some work.
Also, the Flames aren't the only team looking for a new GM. Pittsburgh is going to have their first pick of the litter. There could be other teams as well depending how the first round of the playoffs shakes out.
I am not 100% convinced that keeping Sutter will be a requirement for a new GM though. I just don't think the Flames need to make that decision before hiring a new GM. I think a lot of fans and media are jumping to conclusions about Sutter being bullet proof. Even if the speculation is true that Edwards wouldn't allow Treliving to make a change, that could speak more to the lack of confidence in Treliving at this point to make coaching decisions. A new GM could be given a clean slate and any external GM hire would likely ask for that.

I voted “Other”. If the farmer is sticking around my vote is for Lombardi for GM. They have built a winner before. Under the current ownership, win now is the only option.
Conroy deserves a shot, but Im scared Sutter will have too much influence over him. Im not sure Conroy will be willing to butt heads with or put his foot down when dealing with Darryl.
I think the only way Conroy takes the job is if he has complete say on coaching and if that happens I am very confident Darryl Sutter will get his walking papers. Conroy can be more assertive than you believe.
Will the new GM really matter if the ownership and front office culture rumor's are true?
-Over reaching ownership.
-Refusing to take a serious look at a rebuild.
-Always pushing to just get into the playoffs.
-Will not replace the coach due to a 4mx2 year extension and not pay him not to coach. He failed this year.
-Past power struggle between the coach and GM.
-Coach may get a say on the new GM.
-Coach will not play younger players.
-Coach conflict with many players
If those rumors are true, its going to limit who wants to take the job when you're really not in control. Perhaps this year was just a one off year, where many players had career worst seasons. If they are not firmly in a playoff spot next year at the deadline, that should signal it time to rebuild.

I don't know who will be next GM, but if they don't want to rebuild, I think Conroy should get that role. He knows the players and Treliving so he will just to continue what could Treliving do next couple of years.
But my wish they get very new, aggressive, younger GM that can lead this team total rebuild. Next 2 seasons should be the perfect years to bottom up at the standings and get some high draft picks. Because next season this team's mood will be bad as some of the players wants out, some of them will be traded so there will be lots of roster changes. So why don't go for the top 3 picks.
I like Conroy and think he could be a good GM... but I'm worried he's too close to everything to objectively evaluate the team and its need going forward. He probably has solid relationships with A LOT of the current roster and we need someone to be cold and calculating and make tough decisions.

I want someone who can pick up the job with little growing pains. So that excludes rookie GMs. The focus should be drafting talent, so someone who knows those ropes more than negotiating salary is more important immediate (I don’t envisioning anymore lazy UFA signings).
How is Futa a candidate for every gm job that opens in the league? Either he has terrible interview skills or he’s not a serious candidate and his fellow media friends are floating nonsense. I’m thinking the latter.

I agree with this. I remember when Sutter came on in the early 2003s and got rid of a lot of what we had on the farm because they weren't legitimate prospects anymore. Guys like Levente Szuper and Ladislav Kohn who the previous regime were hanging onto to justify draft picks or trades, Sutter moved on from.
Sometimes it helps to have an evaluator from the outside because they are not as invested can have a more objective view.
