Oddly enough, the Wranglers actually won one more game on the road this season than at home.
25-9-2 at home and 26-8-2 on the road.

crazy stuff. Is this format an AHL exclusive? I don't think I've ever seen something like that. Should be 2-2-1 for sure. Not that I think the Wranglers will need 5 games, but still.

It should definitely be 2-2-1 but obviously it's something the league does to cut down on travel.
Completely ridiculous that a team that finished 1st overall in the entire league has to choose between either starting a series on the road or giving up their home ice advantage altogether.
Now if they don't sweep the first two at home they will have to win two games in Abbotsford.

If they are going to force this reduced travel approach, then better team should get first three games at home.

The problem with that is it doesn't guarantee the lower-ranked team a home playoff game (so the teams would never agree to it), and it still means the lower-ranked team has home ice in Game 5.

Took advantage of the Flames season ticket member offer and got 2 seats for the entire playoffs for $682.50. Can’t wait to watch some playoff hockey

The AHL playoffs is new to me.
Is it aligned like the NHL with the teams playing division games for the first two rounds?
If so how does the 2-3 make any sense when travel really isn't an issue. We travel to BC or California only if I am correct?
2-2-1 has 1 extra travel day and that's if the series is extended.

What a joke.
You finish first in the league only to have to sit on the sidelines for over 10 days and then have to decide either to start on the road for two games or forfeit home ice all together?
Pure stupidity.

Maybe I missed it in this thread but what was the Wranglers' record against Abbotsford this year?

Home 4-2
Away 4-2
Should be an exciting series since both teams play each other hard and the Calgary-Vancouver rivalry

The first round (that the Wranglers had a bye in ) have all 3 games (if necessary) with the higher-seeded team at home.
Maybe so that if there's a first-round upset, they still get some home games. But still, 2-2-1 would be the most logical.

Well when saving costs takes priority over competitive integrity, anything is on the table. The AHL wasn't guaranteeing both teams a home game in the first round.
Now if I'm the Wranglers and I actually had the choice here, I'd pick opening on the road and ensuring the series gets decided on my home ice vs. the current arrangement. But the choice is still dumb.

Ugh. Just on the ferry coming back to Victoria. Thinking about going back Wednesday for the game in Abby. They have the best footlong Nathan's hot dogs so that's also a serious pull
