Imagine he shows up in Australia, hops off the private jet with a bonesaw in one hand and a briefcase with a half a billion dollar contract in the other. He can even be "Holywood" Rory McIlroy.

I thought he was a piece of crap though? I guess in a way he's a villain here because he's making Rory look bad?

What makes Rory so popular anyways? I'm not a fan of his.

Well he's probably not very popular with his banker right now

Quite the leaderboard today, on a great Pete Dye course.

Cantlay winning this one after spending all week getting trashed for his slow play would probably feel pretty good for him.

I wanted Spieth to win until the USA chants.

Yeah chant for Spieth, fine, but the USA chants were cringe as hell.

Spieth will have nightmares about those two putts he had to win, both looked good.

In addition to the USA chant, you had someone yelling in Spieth's backswing at one point in the playoffs. Probably needed to end the alcohol sales a little earlier.

That's a nice course, not that long. I like the small greens.

I think I know which shot you mean, but often the video lags behind the audio when they show the shot tracer. I replayed his tee shot and you can hear the club hit the ball before the person shouts, and both sounds occur when Spieth is in his backswing.

If someone really did shout on his backswing, you'd see a definite reaction from Spieth or his caddy, but you don't.

^^^ I thought the same. It would have been a big deal if there was an early early baba booey- given the stakes.

You might be right, but I wondered if he just didn’t hear it. Even the announcer said something (IBF maybe?), but could be they are watching the same feed.

Didn’t realize that about the lag though, thanks for pointing it out.

Yeah, the main announcers are on the same feed that will be slightly delayed. If you hear an announcer that's in the tower or following the group then you know someone ****ed up.

Taylor Gooch with two consecutive rounds of -10 in the latest LIV tournament, lol. They'll spin that as a positive for sure. Also til tok has been bombarded with videos of this Australian tournament being the new Waste Management open.

Their "party hole" to mimic 16 in Phoenix is goofy. It's a smattering of a hundred or so fans going "ohhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!" as the golfer starts his swing. Then they throw beer cans everywhere if the ball goes within 10 feet of the hole. It's so contrived and cringe.

The funniest part is seeing DJ and Koepka being asked loaded questions about the magnitude of this event. They're making this big deal with fake excitement over the "biggest crowd they've ('they' obviously being LIV and not them as individuals) ever played in front of.

Then it cuts to the "party hole" with a couple hundred people and about 1/10 the excitement and attendance of 16 at Waste Management.

Much fun as it is to dunk on LIV, leaning into party golf and moving the tour to mostly playing in Australia/South Africa is probably their best hope of trying to become even a marginally successful tour. Clearly and by far their biggest crowd at an event so far, by a factor of at least 50 fold over other events. American market is tapped out and has a vastly superior product already, Australia is starved for top level golf. Now maybe once you start doing 10-12 events down there a year it loses its luster, but for now they should be all over it. Thinking it can be a viable product in the US is naive, targeting markets where people don't get a ton of top golf and can party hard isn't a bad play.

A friend of mine went to the LIV event in Florida and he said it was awesome. It was fun and not as stuffy as a PGA event, which is a plus. But the other thing that was great was player access. Not only could you get close to the players, but the players seemed more relaxed and were chatting a bit with the fans and such. Sounded pretty cool to me.

Based on what I have seen on tv the players look a lot more relaxed and it looks like they are having fun which is a stark contrast to the PGA. This week in Australia looks awesome and I think they really hit it out of the park in terms of fan experience.

Obligatory "of course they are relaxed, they are playing pressure free, exhibition golf". Always more fun and relaxed when there is little meaningful on the line.
