Haha… nah man. I negotiated that my employer provide a 15” laptop for me for home use and for business travel. If need be, and the gods of business internet permit, I can still VPN into my desktop.

I typically use a NorthFace commuter backpack that says it can accommodate a 17” plus a lot of other stuff. Also have another backpack which is fine plus a messenger type sling bag. I love the LOOK of the messenger bag but it definitely gets heavy across that one shoulder so don’t recommend it for more weight.

You know it’s officially spring riding season when you see your first early noob season rider wearing their helmet backwards. Haven’t seen it yet this year, but it does happen yearly. Similarly seeing those with their quick releases spinning loosely or sticking straight out (seen already). Or the seatpost slammed and rider looks like an orangutan on a wee bike.

What other pure-noob stuff do y’all see?

Haven’t seen those ones yet, but I’m only a 2nd year cyclist. I’m still tempted to put a kickstand on my road bike to see the reaction. Apparently I’ve already outraged some with my aluminum bottle cages.

I don’t see the problem with a kickstand. I stop for ice cream by Eau Claire, what am I supposed to do? Look tor a bike rack? Lay it on the ground? Anti-kickstand snobs don’t know what they’re missing.

Kickstands simply do not belong on certain levels of bikes.
How dare you.
So don’t push your “kickstand bias” onto me.
Besides, real cyclists don’t stop for anything.
Including stop signs. (Joking)

Don’t you have a specific bike for getting ice cream? What kind of cyclist are you.

Depends on how much you want to spend on them. I have Ortlieb panniers with their backpack conversion system and can’t rave enough about the setup. Expensive but so worth every penny spent!

They also have a dedicated full time backpack/ pannier called the Vario PS that I almost bought but the two panniers with the backpack adapter were the same price as just one of the Vario backpacks.

If you're looking for panniers, they are giving them away in fish creek, saw one just lying on the path this morning, looked pretty nice!

Not necessarily a noob thing, but the dorks that ride around with no hands on their bars, presumably because it makes them feel like a pro, annoy the hell out of me.

Weird hangup. Weird explanation why you think people do it, too. I can't even imagine how that could be annoying to you.

I do this when my hands start getting tired for short periods of time, does this make me a dork?

Well Im clearly in a bad mood for starters. But I have seen a significant crash from a cyclist doing this- someone came up from behind to pass the no hander, and the bell ring startled him enough to lose control and go flying. It is absolutely a hazard to be riding around with no hands, but ya, the dork comment in my post was just being a grump.

That might be what my significant other wants. She sent me a link for the Ortlieb Back Roller City from MEC.

I have a pair of the Back Roller Classic’s which have an inside pocket that should hold her laptop, I don’t think the City has the inside pocket. The mounting systems are also different and the adjustment for fit on different racks is quicker and easier with the 2.1 system on the Classic ( tool free ). The clip for the carry strap that is on some of their panniers is a must have for me and the City does not have that as well.

It doesn’t matter what bags you buy from Ortlieb as anything from them is fantastic quality.

As of last week - my neighbor stated it was still above the fence. The glacier “June” will continue to live up to its name.

Cycling on the 766 must be terrifying. That is a serious commuter highway with very narrow shoulders. Not a leisurely biking path.

perhaps you passed the same no-hands guy this morning as I did? upright no hands riding, those barmits still installed, baggy jacket, cargo shorts no less, and loud studded 26" tires? Oh and yeah somewhat wobbly. Hey if they wanna risk their own lives you do you, but don't pass the risk onto me please.

Question: Do any of your ride with earphones/earbuds in?

I see tons of cyclists with earbuds in their ears and it seems pretty dangerous to me to have music playing and not being able to fully hear all the sounds around you.

I never ride with earbuds in as I don't think it's safe. Is it legal?
