Speaking of Carolina, I noticed Puljuarvi only has 2 assists in 17 games since going to Carolina. This could be the end for him in the NHL as I doubt they qualify him at his current salary. Maybe he'll get a league minimum show-me deal or a PTO next season, but he might be happier going to Europe.

I'll be very disappointed if we try to get win now assets back for players like Lindholm.

At best you get $.80 on the dollar for those types of deals, especially when the contract is expiring.

We have a window to get futures and minimize the brutality of a rebuild. Would be foolish not to explore those deals to reduce the hurt.

Well he sucks at hockey and if possible the Canes actually overpaid for him. Not really surprised, just a shame that the Canes gave the Oilers the out on his cap hit so they could pick up Ekholm.

Do you think a team like Buffalo would give up their 1st for Lindholm? They seem close enough to the playoffs that they'd think about it. Having two top 16 picks in this draft would be great.

Not for this year. And they likely have trouble fitting him in past next year.

Lindholm will get a huge deal for 8 years, it's going to be hard to fit that into most teams cap space.

Huberdeau will be 31 to start the 2024/2025 season with 7 years remaining.
Kadri will be 34 with 5 years remaining
Lindholm will turn 30 two months into his next contract.

that just doesn't seem like a smart way to build a team to me

From that Hockey Writers article, the team most clearly in need of a player like Lindholm is Minny. The structure of Lindholm's contract even fits with working around the buyout hits of Parise and Suter.

Ohgren, O'Rourke, Spacek and 22nd overall would be a very stomachable cost they would be willing to pay. Ohgren is a young LW Coleman clone, O'Rourke and Spacek are both buried in the Wild system a bit, but would be at the top of our barren system on defense, and the 22nd would give another shot at a centre in the draft.

I'm 100% behind using some trades for a quick rebuild turnaround.

I love Ohgren.

Unless Minny has learned (like many teams have, but not all), that giving 8 year contracts to 30 year old's is not a sustainable business model.

Rossi hasn't progressed as quickly as they hoped, and are lacking a true #1. They don't want to waste any years of kiprosov.

Carolina is very careful with whom they give long term contracts to.

I doubt a 30 year old player makes the cut for them.

They literally just traded for Brent Burns and Max Pacioretty, I think they are ok with a long term deal for a 28 year old

Not sure that is comparable. Pacioretty is a UFA and Burns has 2 years remaining on his contract

Then why'd they already and try to trade for him. More than a few leaks that they were trying to get him

That’s simply an inaccurate statement.

Pacioretty’s deal is done.

Burns has two years left.

With two years left on his contract, not one.

I always think somebody like Boston would be a good fit for Lindholm if Bergeron retires at the end of this year. Kind of the perfect replacement.

But I have no idea what they would give the Flames. They have no picks left and I have no idea what kind prospects they have left.

Given that you just pointed out that they acquired Patches and Burns with 1/2 years left, seems like a non-issue.
