I’ve no opinion on Love, because I have no knowledge at all, but it’s a maxim that behind every great coach is a great goalie. Sutter also had Kipper and Quick in his most successful years.

I totally agree. That was my point, in that I don't think it's a coincidence at all.
I'm sure he's a solid coach, but having the best goalie in the league is a huge factor for overall team results.
I used Sutter's last two seasons as a clear example of this.
Last year Sutter could do no wrong.
This year the mob wants to run him out of town.
The biggest difference was the goalies performance.

Lots of people were critiquing some of Sutter's decision last year too, people just weren't jumping on it because it was masked by goaltending and the top line.
Even in 21-22 there were a ton of headscratching decisions.
-Monahan with Lewis and Lucic
-Backlund on the wing
-Defensive usage early in the season was weird
-Usage of Dube and Mangiapane 1st half of the season
I pointed it out during that season and even this season but without the first line on the ice that 21-22 team wasn't that good.
With Gaudreau or Tkachuk: 102 GF - 42 GA; +60
Without Gaudreau or Tkachuk: 94 GF - 97 GA; -3
And he does deserve credit for putting Tkachuk-Lindholm-Gaudreau together, and they did get better under him. But I've also heard rumors he's played a factor in 19 and 13 leaving...so take that for what it is.

Not to mention forcing Janrkok to play C when he was clearly a winger and kept force feeding.
Wonder if that is one of the reasons for Lindholms unhappiness.

Flames building and promoting from within? Can't have that, you'll take your old and broken veteran coach with his Calgary retirement contract and like it!

Congratulations Mitch Love! Also, he looks like he would be a suiting cast member for Peaky Blinders.

Calgary has lacked stability in coaching since...(checks google) FOREVER
It is great when a Cooper, or Trotz or Bednar grabs a post and holds it for a decade plus. It creates an identity for the tam and instills success.
If we lose a potential great coach who could offer this due to the retirement contract for the farmer that everyone hates, it would be peak Flames.
(I'm fully expecting this, along with a successful Phillips in the NHL next year BTW)

Last coach to win it twice was Ftorek. Some pretty good NHL coaches have won the award just as some bad ones have but he's clearly doing something right to win back to back awards even with the goaltender contributions.

Anyone (Scorp?) know if he is under contract next season?
Or, could we block him from interviewing with other organizations?

Is Muller still under contract? Can we fire him and promote Love and in 2 years promote him to HC and just let Sutter's contract expire?

Isn’t the entire coaching staff other than Sutter on contracts that expire this off season?
