I can’t remember the last time I listened to the morning show…
Normally, I don’t mind Ron, but Jiminy Crickets, his ability to segue topics to McD and the Oil was unbelievable.
He had to dig deep on the 1 vs 16 Flyers / Oilers series of 40 years ago. Bravo Ron…

No kidding: "...of course who doesn't remember the Oilers/ Flyers..."
Ron, that was 40 years ago, nobody remembers that, in fact the guys you are speaking with were not even born yet.

Oh man, came here just to chat about it. You could hear the glee in his voice while saying, "that was a clear comeuppance served up by Connor Mcdavid and the Oilers!"
Annoying.

Bought and paid for. The fact that McDavid gets more love from Toronto media than Matthews raises my eyebrows.

being Canadian probably helps.
(and the assumption Matthews will jump ship sooner rather than later)

Hadn't listened to the morning show in quite some time. I turned it on this morning just to hear Ron do his usual Oilers sucking up like he does on HNIC. Turned the station...probably will be a while before I try it again.

It pains me to say it, but this season showed McDavid is clearly the better player, and even those incredible homers in T.O. can see that.

It's all about the fact he's Canadian in a Canadian market where they can pump his tires for TV ratings. As good as Crosby was he was in a US market and RSN, TSN, HNIC could not take advantage of televising all of his games.

He is living his dream job and will not rock the boat and will be a fanboy pushing the narrative ownership wants the fans to buy into. A company man

To be fair Maher was exactly the same. He rarely ever criticized the team over his tenure and that included the Young Guns seasons. Any criticizing of the team was always handled by his color guys (Barkley and Rogers) who both ended up paying the price for it.

Maher did it without coming off delirious or like he was at the gunpoint of CSEC henchmen though.
He was more careful about what he would speak up on/show support for. It was evident he was in the Flames' corner through thick and thin, but without this behaving like Murray was his lord and saviour. He cheerled now and then, but while coming off like a guy that still had his wits about him. He was also respectful of other opinions and let people speak their minds.
I also really hate everything Wills repeats ad nauseum because he pounds the drum of everything that would keep this team mired in mediocrity.
That's what he can't even seem to comprehend. He probably thinks he's pro-Flames, but the things he proposes would slowly drive this team into the ground. Like riding & dying with Markstrom even when he's bad, or making moves from the perspective that this team is just a player or two away (which they are NOT).
What's worse though is that he interjects in semi-reasonable conversations to repeat the stupidity.
It irritates me on the deepest of levels sometimes.
I wish he would just shut up and let the other gents talk some sense and entertain other perspectives.
He brings no value to discussions.

I get that you have a hate on for Wills but the reality is that Pete would always maintain the Flames had a chance to make the playoffs until the very day they were mathematically eliminated despite how dour their situation was making him look delirious himself at times as well. It's simply a requirement of the gig.

Wills sometimes get's too much hate cause of some of the strange homerism he displays. It's not that he's a bad guy but his super and ultra positive takes are out of place.
Flames get blown out 7-1 "There's a lot of firepower on this club, it's a lot closer than the score suggests"
Flames can't win 3 in a row "I got a great feeling the Flames are going to win 14 of their next 16 games"
It's almost like the homerism is poorly timed and trying to look too positive when things are clearly not going well. If Conroy is named GM, he will go full "The ownership looked through every corner of planet earth to find a person who can bring a championship home to Calgary and that man is named Craig Conroy" Ahhh, they found him in the broom closet of the Dome cause his office suffered a bad flood from leaky pipes.

The thing with Peter Maher is that he wasn’t expected to be an “analyst” and offer insights and analysis on the club all that often. He was PBP first and foremost.
I guess because of cost cuts or whatever, Wills has to do radio shows where he is asked all these questions about his opinions on the club. His lack of insight and homerism gets brutally exposed. If he could just do PBP with an occasional interview it would be better.
Rick Ball doesn’t have to talk for an hour a day about the state of the Flames.
