Was there this much outrage when Michael Holditch was Sr VP Hockey Operations and Assistant General Manager? Also an accountant with a long career with the Flames. I seem to recall he was pushed out quietly shortly after Brian Burke arrived.

I considered going to that level but I was pretty certain I was going to lose OP even going back only as far as I did.
Baby steps...if you will.

That was the Feaster era when he had those roles and so very little hockey experience in hockey ops.
I’m all for hiring people outside of ex players but I also like having people who have been on a pair of skates and know which end of the stick to hold.

It's just the nature of having that job. Fans don't trust the corporate executive (nor should they) and they see them as being disingenuous.

IMO the two aren’t even comparable. Bean came across like Kevin Lowe in that presser.

I guess us accountants are just supposed to ...what? Hide in the back office? Never speak in public? Count Beans (sorry John)?
Some of the best CEOs are accountants (yes, you can google that).

John Bean is a really good businessman.
That is why he's the President of CSEC...it's a business that spans much more than just hockey.
IMO the mistake John Bean made in that press conference is he started to talk about Hockey Operations which is not his expertise, and as far as I know has never been part of his role in CSEC.
To me it just shows the big hole that Brad left in the organization. He was the head of the Flames, and when he left they were scrambling a bit because you couldn't have Don Maloney introduce himself as the new PoHO.

To run the finances, the building, the office staffing? Bean is from Saskatoon. I imagine he's played the game a bit.
I tried to look up Ken King's hockey db but couldn't find one.

He is? His hockey team tells me otherwise?
Missing all that sweet playoff revenue.

Ken King prior to the Flames hire was the Publisher of the Calgary Herald, as others have mentioned or more less working his way up from delivering papers in HS.
While his legacy at the paper, including the strike, is complicated for some, he was an instrumental part of Calgary boosterism in the 90s and that work only continued with the Flames.
Not every qualified business exec is going to a huge part of impacting the culture of a city in their roles like King was.
It doesn't mean that Bean isn't a qualified CEO. He just wasn't put in a great position in that presser, and yeah, maybe it should have been Edwards, but that's not his style, and he didn't set either Don or John up for success.
As others have said Don can't introduce himself.

For what it's worth two of his three hockey teams made the playoffs, and so did his football team, and his lacrosse team did last season too.
And I think the Flames Foundation is doing pretty well too via CSEC.
(I know the Flames are the largest money makers of those though, I hear you)

Being the President & CEO of CSEC is not running the day to day operations of the hockey team.
For example The Tampa Bay Lighting are run by Vinik Sports Group, their CEO has absolutely no hockey operations knowledge. ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/steve-griggs-9804b78)
This is common practice in the sports industry - you have a broader organization that manages all the "business" aspects of the org and really have nothing to do with the day to day hockey operations of the team. Running CSEC is so much more than just running the hockey team...funny part is right now on the Flames executive team website there is no mention of anybody that actually does anything related to running the actual hockey department https://www.nhl.com/flames/team/executive
The real question I think is actually more why the team hasn't had a President of Hockey Operations since Burke left - since in the org structure that the Flames have that would generally be a necessary role that prevents exactly what just happened with Treliving from happening, and all of a sudden you are left with no real management structure for the Flames.
