Can you actually back that up? With the way Sutter rolls pairings and the fact that Kylington played with Tanev I don't really believe it. Waiving a top 4 dman still isn't great but I don't think they waived a top pairing star.

I'm convinced after watching the presser that Sutter on the way out too.

Don't much like John Beans demeanor through the whole thing.

The Pacific as a whole had crappy goaltending a high goals against but also was the highest scoring division.

Goals for was to blame we didn't keep up.

We had the talent to do more especially on the powerplay the talent wasn't allowed to flourish.

The wrong person paid the price today for what happened.

Hardly any.

Lindholm took till November to even look a top 9 player, let alone a guy coming off selke finalist votes.

He held the kids to a standard that he didn't uphold with the veteran players.

By doing so he screwed the Flames out of a player that needed a little more leniency but could've help their blue line and PP in juusso.

Sutter's hardball doesn't resonate with every kind of player, but it doesn't mean those players who don't pass his tests aren't good or don't have immense potential. This is why he's a terrible GM. He sifts too much talent out to get a specific kind of hard-nosed attitude player, which few young players develop that early on. Hence his love affair with 30+ skaters.

You can only maximize what you get from a Sutter team if he's forced to use the roster you give him, small/skilled players and all. Especially in today's nhl where skill is so prominent, he can't be trusted to make wise line up decisions if he has it his way.

Probably one of a many reasons why Treliving parted ways today. He gave Sutter the players he wanted there and Sutter sat them when we needed the boost of energy, skill and enthusiasm. If they were offering Brad a 2 year extension to work alongside a coach they hand picked who doesn't agree with him, I can see why that would be unappealing.

I still think the tire fire level of goaltending is the back breaker. Can't trade chances when your goaltenders are garbage. They had decent to middling offensive and defensive stats and bottom of the barrel goaltending stats.

Vali is still a pylon in his own end...

Playing on a team trying to lose with no pressure is also much different

My ideal off-season:

The Out:
Entire coaching staff.
Players who want to move on.

In:
Conroy GM
Love HC
Iggy AC
Unknown vet AC
New head of goaltending
New GC

Seems to line up naturally with 4 or 5 young stars all ready for full time duty.

I take Maloney saying he's doing an evaluation of the entire organization, as a grain of salt. He knows what owners are thinking, from being around and from his interactions with Tre. Sutter conducted himself like an idiot this year. Further his preferred style is not high on offense which holds skill players back. Coming to a colder environment with worse taxes is one thing, but limiting your on paper production further makes it hard to want to stay. Not to mention from an entertainment perspective playing d-first isn't very fun. You want to make a difference? Get rid of the dinosaur and focus on developing youth. Don't bring in a ferrari's an expect it to do the work of a pick up truck. Get players who fit roles. Build through the draft. That is your evaluation.

Gretzky pulled in a generation of Oilers fans and McDavid is doing the same.

Mike Futa was already texting his interest.

He's young and innovative in the Darryl Sutter mold just needs to show off the cup rings and it's a done deal.

I like Backlund. Great player over the years.

Am I that upset he and Lindy would like new surroundings?

Not really.

Promote Looch to GM. He’s got the chops and experience, it’s the only plausible next path for him.

I am decidedly not a BT fan, however to essentially see him choose to leave based on his relationship with the coach, and that press conference, just points to how much of a complete mess this organization is. To think that a GM would essentially leave because an owner approved coach has more power than him is a disaster. Just another really ugly day for this franchise that continues to look like a joke.

I am hopeful that the new GM can be a positive force for change.
