I might be in the minority here, but I'd love to see the current core give it another go, with a major influx of youth. With Coronato, Duehr, Pelletier, Ruzicka, and possibly Zary and Phillips in the lineup, it'd be a totally different experience.
I, however, don't see how that happens with Sutter coaching. Maybe just have the GM straight up tell Sutter that's what he's working with, and not sign any vets. Lewis, Lucic, and Ritchie are all gone, which is a huge start to forcing Sutter's hand on playing the youth.

Yeah, but in his rawness and closeness to Brad I'm sure Bean etc wishes he had phrased some of the initial stuff differently to spin it better

His close relationship to Brad is one of the many reasons why I wouldn't have put him in that position.

At least I live in Toronto and can watch the Leafs.
Say what you want about Dubas and co., but at least MLSE operates like an actual business is supposed to. They let the hockey people do hockey things and take a fairly hands-off approach.

Yeah, but only one guy could actually admit that. Acting like he's the smartest guy in the room made Bean look silly.

Dude, you have to quit kicking guys as soon as they leave.
|
I'm not kicking anyone...how is the GM not partially responsible for guys leaving?
He could have signed Tkachuk longer but the cap was tied up in Neal ect.
He obviously didnt read the Gaudreau situation well

That is what they will do maybe outside the youth part. If they get league average goaltending they will be in the hunt for the playoffs. Trade no one and then lose them in the offseason.

To be fair, I trust that Don wasn't uncomfortable with the questions, or he wouldn't have answered them.

Bean could learn from Maloney from that press conference. Bean too worried about taking a hit so wouldn't say they wanted Treliving to stay, etc. Just take a couple of shots and no one cares about it. Dodging and being defensive just makes you look worse than saying what really happened.

I wouldn't mind if they trade him to Ottawa, Detroit, Columbus, Phoenix, anywhere. Free up the cap space to sign someone else.

Treliving is not responsible for Gaudreau leaving, but he didn't see the writing on the wall. Fans and media saw it. It wasn't a sure thing he was leaving, but when he didn't sign the summer before, you need to lend it more credence and you need to move the asset. This franchise can't afford Gaudreau leaving for nothing. That part is 100% on him.

It's Bean's job to run the hockey club no?
I actually get a little bit of the poor Maloney part, he was in a tough spot, but you also need someone who is in hockey ops (and they picked the person who's making the next big hockey decision for the Flames, which is the right call) to speak to future hockey questions.
I'm not sure why Edwards and the owners would pay Bean to be president, if they have to come in and do all the media avail when things aren't going well.
The narrative is hilarious. The people running the club, are there speaking to the club, and the fans want the owners. But the fans also feel the owners are too involved. This narrative that the owners are running everything, but then just throw their puppets up on stage when things go bad is completely unfounded, and to be honest a little ridiculous.

Big gap between on-ice stuff and the hiring of a President of Hockey Ops.
Generally you wouldn't let the guy who just was hired on to be your president of hockey ops be the one answering the questions about why the guy he is replacing left.
It's just my take but the rumor was Edwards in town as part of these changes...and IMO he should have been there today.

It’s literally part of his job.
I’m sure Maloney didn’t ask to have his hand held by ownership. Do we want them stepping in and taking over from the people they hired, or not?

The benefit to being owned by a combo of giant corporations. There's not really anyone who can directly meddle and by time whatever message trickles down from a board meeting - its going to be more sensible than someone going off after a loss.
