Sounds like Maloney admits that Treliving left the Flames, not really mutual.

We are where the Canucks were months before they made that trade for OEL. We haven't even gone through that yet.

It can absolutely get worse. That's all I'm saying.
I understand where you're coming from in that the flames can finish lower in the standings and that's worse to some people. Also in 2022 Philly drafted 5th overall so this will be 2 years in a row of getting a very good pick. I'd much rather be in Phillys shoes than ours.

Vancouver drafting 15th in 2022 plus hanging their hats on JT Miller is about where we are right now except change Miller with Huberdeau and Kadri. This is the worst place to be.

The one scary thing that could prevent that is the cap space they'll have from moving on from veterans plus the cap increase 2 years from now.

They'll have plenty of cap space to overpay UFAs

Will people have patience for the rebuild when they are so impatient getting there? A rebuild was never going to happen after winning the Division again two seasons ago. It also wasn't going to be an immediate thing after 889 goaltending this year.

This news along with the news that Backlund and Lindholm want out brings us one step closer to a rebuild, but fans have to prepare themselves for the fact that rebuilds aren't immediate linear things and they take time and there will be lots of hiccups along the way.

If the pivot ownership wants doesn't work this year, Sutter will be gone and they will look towards the inevitable rebuild I think. But if the pivot doesn't work I think we have to prepare for the fact that we would be several long years away from a competive team again

Holy hell Maloney starting off by saying he would have fired himself and thanking ownership for keeping him. Great start lol

Interesting, Maloney sharing some insight he probably didn't mean to.
"Been around the team more the last 2-3 weeks as circumstances needed me to"

They clearly knew Brad's been leaving for a while.

Flames are ####ed now lol

This is what I would like to see:

1. Move the team to Houston
2. Build a godamned arena (um, duh?)
3. Get an expansion team in Calgary

We'll get an actual contender way faster that way with these new fangled ED rules.

I wish Brad wasn't as classy as he is and will stay his reasons for walking.

I have no feelings either way on Tre leaving. I can only assume that the hiring of Huberdeau and Kadri was the last nail in the coffin. He was either the decision maker in that hiring or was pressured into it by ownership. If it was the former, then he probably recognized it was a mistake. If it was the latter, then he probably recognized this will mean a continued lead to mediocracy by the team. Based on tying up almost a third of the cap in those two plus Markstrom there's no room for improvement. Those of you who hope that those players will return to some level of super stardom are dreaming in technicolor. I see nothing in Huberdeau that indicates he can miraculously become that player and Kadri's apparent attitude alone gives me less of a hope. Markstrom at best is just a mediocre goaltender. I don't see Lindholm or Backlund staying and don't blame them. The continued quest to make the playoffs will continue. No one seems to remember that Sutter said the team hasn't got the talent. Until the fan base stops filling the building, nothing will happen. Unless that happens, ownership will see no need to sell, so it will continue to be the same old, same old.

I'm I the only one who doesn't care that Lindholm wants out? He has never shown up when it mattered most. I think the Flames can win a trade moving him

It would be on brand for the Calgary Flames to finally start a rebuild after all of the good players have already left as free agents.
