This is bang on in my opinion.

Edwards has Sutter’s back. He brought him in. No decent GM is going to want to come into Calgary when they know Edwards and Sutter are buddies and the coach will have all the real power.

Mistake if they kept Sutter and that forced Treliving out.

Rebuild will get what they want but without the assets they should have got. Flames will continue to do things in the most painful fashion lol. I also can't wait to draft big plugs in the first round.

BT failed in 9 years to build a consistent team. Traded high picks for roll players and signed some awful UFA contracts. He built a few strong teams and always spent to the cap. It really is a mixed bag. I would give him a 7.5/10 which altogether is not bad.

I would love to bring in Dubas if Sutter was gone. He would definitely be the gm that would want Huska or Love coaching the team. He would put some faith in those guys to play and develop some of the younger players

Weird post. Treliving has got a hell of a lot more of a track record than Dubas had at the time the Leafs hired him.

If/when Treliving lands somewhere does Conroy follow him?

Or would he rather (i) stay in Calgary because he likes it here and perhaps be the GM in the very near future, or (ii) pursue his own opportunity if he can be a GM elsewhere?

They'll half ass that again too. Edwards doesn't have the patience to rebuild. I think this situation makes it definitive where the problem in this organization lies.

Yes, but results matter. His initial directive was all about building a perennial contender and he never even came close to achieving that mark. Instead the Franchise was a coaching graveyard under his stewardship, marked by highly inconsistent results, some great moves and far too many headscratchers.

I don't know where you go from here, but it is certainly concerning that this appears to further entrench the idea that the owner is running hockey operations, and if this is the case, it doesn't really matter who they bring in to replace BT, the result and operations will not change.

You're not promoting the guy that was Treliving's mentor to PoHo if you weren't a fan of what Treliving did and you would have blown up the entire front office.

Maloney being PoHo isn't an issue in my books, he has a lot of experience in the league and will help with the GM search like Burke did when Treliving was hired. His work from 2010-2016 in Arizona actually isn't that bad, with no money he somehow got that team into the playoffs three straight seasons and into the conference finals once.

Just have to hope it's a young GM, and not some Sutter approved re-tread.
Yeah I don't have an issue with Maloney sticking around. I wouldn't want him as the GM, but a good man with hockey experience is never a bad thing.

Also should mean less chaos for this draft with the scouting staff acting as always instead of being guided in a new direction; they've done well under Treliving and that shouldn't change.

Will miss Treliving, the only way they find that level of quality in a replacement is to go inexperienced and hope he works out like Treliving did.

Will be good to have Maloney if they do go that route.

I could take or leave Treliving at this point.

At least with Maloney being promoted to POHO, he is unlikely to keep the GM title as well.

What does a president of hockey operations do?

Anyway it looks like ownership chose Sutter over Treliving.

I hate the Kadri signing.

I suspect Tkachuk was gone regardless of whether he was offered captain. But he should have been given more than a bridge. But even then we don’t know whether he would have accepted.

There is probably a back story to Johnny that no one knows. You have to wonder whether the rumours are true that JG wanted to sign the next day, that Edwards refused and that Treliving was furious.

Would love to know the true story.
