It's not new, but I've noticed and been very surprised that as a result of COVID, the convoys, etc. more people who have historically been not about conspiracy theories and secret agendas are likely now to believe in these things happening and how it's "so obvious and clear", but only when it comes to anything JT-related.

Anyone like that either quit or were fired when they tried to have Musk stop and think before implementing stupidity. There is no one left but Musk, Musk committed yes techs, and those on work Visas who don't really have a choice if they want to stay in the US.

If enough legitimate news groups (gov't funded or otherwise) quit Twitter, it will be a nail in the coffin. Perhaps not the last nail, but I do think it is the beginning of the end. Alienating advertisers, then content providers just will leave the nut jobs and self-aggrandizing blowhards.

Pierre is such a joke. I’d really like to vote CPC this election round, but with that guy running the show I’m very resistant to wanting to vote for him. His Twitter CBC schtick is such a turnoff for an undecided voter like myself. It’s funny because while Trudeau has next to no experience other than teaching, PP has nothing, pure political career. How he can be such a populist is beyond me, he doesn’t know ####. I really wish O’Toole was the CPC leader.

I'm not well-versed (or maybe not versed at all) on where PBS gets it's funding. But isn't it "made possible by viewers like you"? or has something changed there?
Also, shout out to the "Friends of 7" who were older than me in school and played some amusing pranks on the math teacher!

In fact, federal funding provides only about 15% of the revenue for the public television system. That’s an investment of $1.35 per taxpayer per year.

This is very much the type of stuff I expect of politics south of the border. Ugly, and panders to the constituency of nuts and conspiracy theorists.

And I think the labels are stupid if the broadcaster has any sort of neutrality clause, like the CBC:
Quote:
Its editorial independence is protected in law in the Broadcasting Act
|
Why does it matter if it is funded by taxpayers? If it is independent, then you have as much chance of finding bias there as any other commercial news source or "citizen journalist". It's a stupid label in a further attempt to reduce the perceived legitimacy of real media, becuase Musk thinks they wrote some means stories about him, his cars, his tunnels, or his rockets.

He does know that under his own definition, the CBC would then be his own propaganda arm if he was going to win the next election? I have to agree with Glencross, PP is a big turnoff for voting for the conservatives, he is hurting their brand by not behaving like he belongs in the PMO.

I didn't think there was any way Trudeau could win another election with all his baggage, but Poilievre is doing his best to make sure that happens.
It's amazing how brain dead the Conservatives are when it comes to not turning off moderates. All they needed was a halfway competent candidate who'd shut up the crazies like Harper did, and they'd probably cruise to a victory with little effort. Instead they've decided the campus Young Conservative energy is the ticket. It might still work, but they're making it a lot harder on themselves than they needed to.

Of all the issues in Canada to focus on, Pierre goes off the deep-end pretending like 99% of Canada didn't already know the CBC receives government funding.
And there's a separate between government-funding and editorial control, which the latter is what Pierre really has a problem with. If CBC was writing ass-kissing articles all day long about how great Pierre was, none of this would be an issue. In fact he's probably say it was a great use of public funds and a stalwart of a strong democracy.
This, among many other things, shows why he doesn't have the gumption, tact, or tolerance to be a formidable PM.

I see stuff like that and just see him as dangerous and legitimizing the beliefs that undermine trust in institutions. It completely voids any progress that he could potentially make with me via other legitimate policy positions, but then I suppose I'm not his target market
