I liked Tre, but I can't see how an honest review of his results as Flames GM would lead to him being rated anything other than middle of the back...at best.

I do wonder if perhaps he was unwilling to come back with Sutter behind the bench, and the organization was unwilling to fire Sutter.

Where we should send our resume for Flames GM position? But I hope they hire someone better than me.

Half measure after half measure.

If Treliving is leaving then the entire house should have been cleared. Maloney and Tre have spent the last 15 years together building two separate organizations. What is really changing?

It's one thing when a player wants out, another thing when multiple players want out, but when the GM wants out you know you have major issues in the organization.

The team needs a new owner - one who just sits back and lets the hockey people do what they’re supposed to do.

Sadly I don’t see that happening.

Brad did some good work but I'm okay with a change. If you told me the Flames are about to hire a GM for 10 years and they would have 2 first round wins to show for it, while normally trading off early exits and missed playoffs, I'd probably say no thanks.
People are very attached to a GM who ultimately didn't accomplish all that much here. But he is a smart guy, I think he could have success in his next chapter.

Oh I was. However that was prior to the Sutter/Treliving power struggle. I would take Treliving over Sutter 100/100 times. We are entering dark times with Darryl back in control. Make no mistake, he's running things now.

Truly the laughing stock of Canadian franchises right now.

Good riddance to the most over rated GM in franchise history.

The love he gets in this fanbase is hilarious. 2 series wins in 9 years while cycling thru 5 different head coaches, spending to the cap and inheriting a decent young core to begin with.

Sadly i have 0 faith this ownership group hires anyone better to replace him.

I was trying to get a sense of Maloney's trade history. It does look like he steered some re-building type periods in Arizona? I can't fully tell.

For every good move he did bad ones. Making the Tkachuk sea while his hands were tied was brilliant. Signing Huberdeau and Kadri at their ages to extensions were dumb.

To be honest, I didn’t follow Maloney too closely, so hearing this I went and looked up his time with the Coyotes. There were a couple interesting articles about him building through the draft and finding some diamonds in the rough. One article specifically mentions him getting fired because of him wanting to stay the course and keep building while new owners wanted to fast-track things. It also mentioned him and Tippet butting heads. Then, there was another article with quotes from ownership suggesting they wanted Maloney to spend on big ticket free agents but he wouldn’t “there was money available but he didn’t spend it in the way we wanted” and the same owners praising Chayka (we know how that turned out).

I wonder if this might be a good thing. The Coyotes have one playoff berth since he left and Maloney got them to the Conference Final, so it terms of their success… it’s really been all his, and you could argue that they’ve just gotten worse since he left.

Maybe there’s also the possibility that he’s not looking to butt heads and get into a power struggle with a coach again, so either Darryl and he are aligned, or Darryl is out.

Just thinking out loud mostly. I don’t know. I’m ready to be pleasantly surprised.
