I really wanted him to stay, but the writing has been on the wall. Thanks for all your hard work Brad.

Good luck Brad. Was hoping you would continue with the Flames. Now hoping Maloney/Bean/etc don’t screw up the next choice.

Most of what I know about Maloney is from Arizona. What kind of a GM is he?

Wonder if that is because he is one of the candidates for the permanent gig. Have Maloney as interim and conduct the search, including Conroy.

Maloney was the Islanders GM from 1992 to 1995 and the Coyotes GM from 2007 to 2016. He has the experience of the GM although he left the Islanders at the start of a massive drought and the Coyotes in the middle of a massive drought.... on the plus side his teams twice made it to the 3rd round... the only two years his teams had any kind of playoff success.

Not surprised whatsoever Maloney is GM given his experience. I don’t think it’s the best move forward if he ultimately becomes the permanent one. This isn’t a good situation right now and I really hope they pay someone with a creative mind and who’s well respected to come in and clean this mess.

Sorry, we're passed that stage.
We're now just throwing whatever old rubbish is hanging around on the stage and hoping not to get booed.
I'm booing.
There's only one redeeming thing that can happen now: Full and complete rebuild. Rip it down.

75% of the league spends to the cap every year. It's be highly known that Edwards refused to spend a lot of money on coaches prior to Darryl, he has only ever used like $250K in total salary retention since it became an option in this league.
Truly, Murray Edwards is one of the very worst owners in the league.
Things will not get better for this organization until he is gone.

The new GM should be rounding out the front office staff, not the ownership. This is the clearest indication yet that the Flames owners are not allowing this team to be run independently.

This is not good for the Flames.
I imagine a handful of players on the team likely feel the same. Seems like another rat jumping off a sinking ship unfortunately.

Well when they keep Sutter and walk all the UFAs over two years to FA they will be there lol. They won't trade them away though

This team is 100% going to run it all back for another run at 4th place in the division and will lose Lindholm and Toffoli for nothing.

To me this screams that it's Treliving's decision to leave. There have been rumblings his entire duration of GM that he was unhappy with Edwards meddling and wanted complete control, and my guess is that remained his ask as part of re-signing and he didn't get it.
You're not promoting the guy that was Treliving's mentor to PoHo if you weren't a fan of what Treliving did and you would have blown up the entire front office.
Maloney being PoHo isn't an issue in my books, he has a lot of experience in the league and will help with the GM search like Burke did when Treliving was hired. His work from 2010-2016 in Arizona actually isn't that bad, with no money he somehow got that team into the playoffs three straight seasons and into the conference finals once.

Just have to hope it's a young GM, and not some Sutter approved re-tread.
