I wonder if they would do something around Maloney promoted to POHO, and Conroy GM, since Conny is fairly inexperienced....

I think the inexperience is just being the head guy he's been in management for a while now so I would be comfortable with him being a GM.
The issue is does he have any loyalty to certain players and the coach that would hold him back from making the right moves.

Man, I absolutely love Conroy but my memories clash with yours so much. It's been over 20 years so the details are off but more than once I remember being frustrated with post game interviews with him where he just seemed to not care. Early in Sutter's tenure, six or seven game losing streak, middle of the season. Maybe 2003? They kept losing and it was a shrugging of the shoulders.
Full season under Sutter, the addition of a guy like Gelinas probably turned around that country club more than anything.

Conroy's been assistant GM for nine years, management role for 12, the guy is ready for the next step. Would welcome a promotion if Treliving bolts.

If this is what a winning attitude looks like, I guess my expectations have been way to high!

Hiring Conroy for GM is no difference than the Oilers hiring their buddies
The guy is already part of the problems

No kidding. I remember when the trade went down and Stillman went the other way. The narrative was that you don't win anything with players like Cory Stillman and Craig Conroy was a player you win with. Funny how things played out.

The most important personal attribute that I look for in a potential NHL General Manager is someone who is angry and miserable all the time.

It took some time for Stillman to mature further and go on to win some cups
But conroy was a big part of the change here along with guys like Yelle and Warrener
The trade was a win win

Don’t expect a reply. The poster hasn’t offered a single thought of substance in his entire time here. Just negativity and drive bys

What? Most people were enraged at the loss of points for a defensive player.

I hope Treliving re-signs, and I hope we hear about it tomorrow or Tuesday at a press conference with both Sutter and Tree there.
I just think back to how <emotional damage> devastated Tree looked at the impromptu presser when he announced that Johnny was leaving. That dude cares. He's incredibly well respected, and would be able to walk out and find another job tomorrow. If he chooses to stay, it's as significant as a big-time home grown player who is on the brink of free agency choosing to stay.
I just hope he stays, and is given the opportunity to rebuild the team.

If Treliving leaves, who is left to do the due diligence on hiring the next GM? Edwards or Bean? I could see them going internal (Conroy) for that very reason. Or, possibly, they hire an external consultant, like a Burke (again), to find the next GM.

Not sure I agree with that. Stillman played two more years for the Blues before winning back-to-back Stanley Cups. During that time Stillman was a top six producer for the Blues. With Conroy Calgary missed the playoffs both years and only made the playoffs once before moving on to LA. That year the Flames made the playoffs was the one where Stillman won his first Stanley Cup. Conroy's impact was not that significant IMO. He was a great interview and pal for Iginla, but as far as a main cog to making the machine go, never bought it. I agree with Yelle and Warrener being key components but I would also throw Langkow and Hamrlik in as a important players to the evolution and success of the team as a whole. I never saw Conroy as moving the needle much. But let's also acknowledge the gorilla in the room, the team went as far as Iginla and Kiprusoff could carry them.

It could just as easily be Don Maloney named as Treliving's replacement.

FWIW on the DFO podcast, Seravalli also says he's heard Conroy, Maloney and the training staff were "taken care of" and got new contracts. Edward's and Treliving were to talk this weekend.

I don't get the Conroy hate. He wanted to stay but Darryl had other plans. He may have not been a point producer but I think the person did a lot as far his attitude and wanting to be in Calgary when no one did.
People hate the American players for leaving but are hating one for staying here.

Can't help but wonder:
- is this weekend full of intrigue at the Palace?
- is King Murray still in control?
- has Tremendous Tre lost his chance at the brass ring?
- has Dazzling Darryl stolen the King's marbles and snuck off?
- is Conversational Conny moving up on the leader board?
- did Manly Maloney elbow Conversational Conny out of the way and grab the reins?
Seems like there is a quiet over the land, except among the peasants who are riled, disturbed and ready for revolution. ("Let them eat pucks!" was recently heard coming out of the Dome.)
And the usual treats of Orange Julius have vacated for the time being...as silence descends.
Tap. Tap. Tap. Waiting for shoes to fall, heads to roll or...nothing?

Agreed.
He gets flak for somethings that are not in his control. This seems to be a ownership group that likes to be involved and has a clear mandate and he has done the best job possible I think.
Calgary is a hard market to attract and keep players because of geography. I think he's done a great job in assembling a talented team.
His only knock is the coaches he has hired but I wonder if budget constraints have hampered his ability to go after the bigger fish.
It's a strange way to operate we will spend to the max on talent but about the guy leading the charge let's keep it cheap unless it's Sutter.
