Zacha would be great, but Frederic is very underrated. He’s big and tough, skates well, and is just coming in to his own at 25, with 17 goals and 31 points in 79 games. Very useful player. Quite buried in Boston.

I would push for Zacha plus Lysell myself. Zacha had a great year and is a versatile LW/Center. He is big and adds speed which we do lack within the line up.

Boston doesn't have a first until 2025 so even then I don't know what else I would want from them that makes sense for both parties.

Pavel Zacha is under contract until 2028 and makes under 5 million. Boston is already in cap hell next year, because they have to re-sign or replace Bergeron, Krejci, Bertuzzi, Hathaway, Nosek, Orlov, and Clifton, plus have Frederic and Swayman as RFAs. Even if they trade Swayman, they need a goalie.

Lindholm actually makes slightly more than Zacha and is UFA next season. I can't see any way they add one of their top prospects in Lysell, who would be cheap and cost-controlled for 3 years.

Boston needs to cut cap, not take on more expensive players.

Wrong team target.

Lindholm is a far superior of a player than Zacha and Lysell is still at least two seasons away.

If this trade is done this summer it would give Boston the time to figure it all the cap stuff out.

I think the best case scenario would be to trade Lindholm to a team confident they could re-sign him, maybe he would like to join Johnny in Columbus.

Have the BJ's soured on Sillinger after a brutal second season?

How about:

Jenner, Sillinger and a 1st (LA's)

for

Lindholm and Vladar

If Lindy won’t re-sign, I would do that in a heartbeat.

I think Blue Jackets will be good trade partner. They may pay more to unite Johnny and Lindholm. Plus Laine they can get a great 1st line to get them closer to playoffs.
And Lindholm will increase his points for the next contract.
Lindholm and Hanifin are our biggest assets to get best return to change team.

Lindy to CBJ makes a ton of sense and Sillinger would be a great target. Backs I would hang onto until the trade deadline to flip because you’re more likely to get a bigger return for him at that time than you will at the draft and he still helps the team immensely with his 200 foot prowess.

Players I’d deal at the draft
Lindholm
Tanev

Players I’d wait and see until TDL
Backlund
Toffoli
Hanifin

Players I’d extend now
Zadorov
Stecher
Dube

Without going to far into speculation on the returns of Lindy and Tanev outside of Sillinger, the roster would look something like this heading into the start of the season:

Huberdeau - Kadri - Toffoli
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
Pelletier - Dube - Coronato
Zary - Sillinger - Duehr

Hanifin - Andersson
Zadorov - Weegar
Kylington - Stecher
Gilbert - Stone

Marky
Vlad
Wolf

*If you can find a taker for Markstrom without taking on a terrible contract I’d definitely consider that but one of Vlad or Marky need to be gone no later than Christmas to open the door for Wolf to take the next step.

You deal the players that don't want to be here or have no interest in re-signing ASAP. Recognize when it's time to move on and don't poison the pond hoping to land a big fish.

Flames view Coronato as a winger.

Played C out of necessity for the first part of the season

Yup. And it's such a mega bummer it's two players we simply cannot afford to lose both of, simultaneously.

But I understand from their side though. Backs his whole career has been on the Flames Rollercoaster of doom. Lindholm has spent 4 year here and had 4 career years on a bargain contract and he's the last of the young gun core. I'd explore a change as well. Which is a bloody shame as I always seen Lindholm as a Flames lifer after what he's done in Flames colors.

Hard to believe this off-season might be even more difficult to navigate than last off-season. But here we are.

Oh, and if you told me a year ago that of the two players we got in the Hamilton deal it would be Hanifin wanting to stay and Lindy wanting out? I'd have argued till I was blue in the face.

At this point you have to keep Hanifin don't you?

I’d say no, they don’t have to do anything.

They need to build a plan. It can’t be just about “oh this guy actually wants to stay here - pay him his money!” There has to be a structured plan, and you execute that plan.

I’d argue any good plan would gear towards a rebuild. Without Lindholm (and Backlund) this team is finished. It’s over for this group.

Could be a realistic target. I know the Flames were really high on Sillinger going into that draft.

I don't think it's very realistic. Doesn't make sense to move young top end roster players when they are in the position they are, especially since they view Johnson and Sillinger as their future #1 and #2 centers. And Lindholm is an upcoming UFA who wants to cash in too, just doesn't fit their timeline.

I think a realistic trade option would rather be Hanifin, they need to replace Gavrikov and Kekalainen has publicly said they need a top 4 guy. He would fit their rebuild much better.

The team that absolutely jumps out as needing a longterm answer at centre, and are in an opening window, is Detroit. I'd also keep an eye on St. Louis and Philly. They are in various levels of needing a rebuild, but generally hate rebuilds (much like Calgary) and could be the league's wildcards this offseason, messing up trade scenarios league wide.

Linholm should go to whomever wins Bedard.

That team will want to start competing soon, and after tanking will need talent like Lindholm on their second line. And they'll probably have plenty of cap space to sign him to an extension. CBJ has lots of room for example.

It's also possible that they will not be great next year, so high picks in 2024 for the Flames.

It's not ideal for people that want a retool this offseason, but probably nets you the biggest return.

You still need good players even if you are rebuilding and Hanifin isn't even old he's like 25. I liked what I heard from him that he wants to be a leader and looked upon as one.

I'd keep him he would be good with young players.
