Maloney's a long-time Tre guy. Sounds like Treliving will be back.

Good news if Treliving is deciding to stay. I don't see any other candidates out there that are instantaneously better.

Awesome - if/when Tre leaves, we get GM Sutter Part Deux!!!
Can't wait to see him trade Huberdeau to Toronto for 4 pieces of 4th line/bottom pairing garbage!!!!!!

lol. Starting to feel like we're basically run like Vancouver if they got better outcomes from the exact same process. New GM and/or President of Hockey Ops who comes in and his coach is already picked for him.

I personally get the Vibe that if Sutter stays Tre is gone. Whether that is an owner decision or Tre's. Wonder if ownership told Tre this is his last coach since he's been through so many and Tre want to make that change but cant.

There's no word on Treliving returning.
Also, we don't know how many/which players won't return.
Is Lindholm signing extension? If no, he needs to be traded. Is Hanifin signing an extension? If no, he needs to be traded. Is Toffoli? Backlund? Tanev? Zadorov?

If they bring back the same team, coaching staff and management it's going to be impossible to be excited for next year

Seravalli said he doesn't see both Treliving and Sutter back, and it seemed like he was leaning towards Sutter not returning this morning.
Big changes could also mean players

It seems weird to extend the assistant GM's before the GM. If Treliving leaves and they have to hire a new GM ideally you let him bring in his own guys. I'm not optimistic the players that had issues with Sutter this season will do an about face next season as we know Darryl's not going to change how he does things.

To me it points to Conroy being the GM if Treliving doesn't return. So while the Flames are trying to re-sign Tree, the ball is in Tree's court and the Flames need to protect themselves in what looks like a MASSIVE off-season. If Tree says he's not coming back, then you're not taking a massive disruptive hit because Connie has been there for the exit interviews etc. etc. etc.
I think it's either GM Tree or GM Connie.

IMO it's a sign that if Treliving isn't back, we'll likely see an inexperienced yes man as GM who cannot dictate his assistants.

Maybe we will just name a bunch of assistants and not have a GM. Just like in the dressing room. Seems like a Flames thing to do.

From the mumbling sit sure seems like Sutter isn’t well respected. So why is he safe? Contract? Politics? So dumb. He’s responsible for the day to day performance yet the team didn’t perform, and worse yet, didn’t respect him. So you maintain a poor work environment just because you made a mistake signing him to an extension. Yet another Calgary Flame doubling down on a mistake. The guy doesn’t want to work with young talent for any prolonged period of time. So this signals plowing through and crossing fingers.

Pretty tough for a new GM to be put in a spot where the coach is staying but a group of players don't like the coach and some of them could be UFA's next season.

Haven't heard that Bob Murray got an extension so that's a relief I suppose.

This screams Tre will be extended and that makes me happy.

This is the ideal scenario for me. I like Treliving. And personally, I really don’t want to see Darryl fired again after the bad blood that happened after Feaster took over. To me he’s a Flame for life. But I do think a coaching change is probably needed since Kadri is unlikely gonna be moved. Give him a hockey ops/coaching staff advising role that will allow him to spend more time at the farm, similar to what he did in Anaheim
Plus as a bonus we still probably get Chris Sutter Time

Weird to be nervous about locking down a guy who would only coach for the Flames and the Hawks. I guess they just wanted to make sure he was the coach for at least 4 years if not 5.
