Tulsky is the brain behind what is going on in Carolina, and they have made some really shrewd moves in their time.
I just don't want a Mike Futa, Murray, Hextall, Fletcher type of re-tread GM to be honest.

Whenever I hear Futa on Sportsnet, I realize what an absolute doorknob he is, and I remember wanting him in 2014.

Not sure if it’s been posted, but Treliving watched the entire morning skate today from the bench, and had conversations with some of the regulars, like Coleman, Vladar, and Weegs, plus Coronato and Wolf.
Almost sounds like a goodbye….

I think he’s just awkward talking in front of cameras. He had a ton of respect around the league when he worked for LA…..

Sutter isn't totally anti-analytics whether he says so or not. High shots/shot suppression are certainly are an analytics staple. But then he goes and throws out long fourth line shifts.

As for Tre, I am not sure where i stand, dont trust this team to find a better alternative.

Not correct.
Gulutzen tried to play Brodie on his "correct" side (which was left). Brodie was used to playing right side. Probably because he'd had to ebcause of shortages of RHS defence, but he'd gotten very accustomed to it. But suddenly there were two more RHS Dmen - Hamilton and Hamonic, and it seemed like Brodie could go to his "strong" side.
Brodie struggled, indeed. Partly becaise of the side he played on, partly because he was away from Gio for the first time, and partly because he got paired with Hamonic who didn't perform very well.
I don't know why Huberdeau was on the right side here, aside from the fact that there is only one RHS RW among the top wingers on the team.
EDIT: It did make some sense when he played with Pelletier because you don't make the rookie play off wing if he's not used to it.

Without a doubt this team should be built around Huberdeau’s strengths next year.
No more RW, put him back with Lindholm and let him play east/west hockey like he has his entire career.
Get him away from the boring north/south dump and chase RW sinkhole.
That’s not his style.

It’s very Flames to buy a Ferrari and act surprised when it’s not good in rallies.

My fear with a Carolina based approach is the same thing we are seeing right now a lot of shot volume and mediocre offensive results.
They got grateful goaltending.
I haven't dived deep into the advanced metrics for Carolina so they may might be creating more high danger.

Awkward.... Brad on the outside with Darryl holding the cards. Wonder if some players knew this was coming, might explain some of the dissatisfaction. I am not sure how I feel if Darryl is involved in the direction of the team/organization.

Since the Hamilton trade the Canes have done better than the Flames but not by a lot. They might have tougher competition TBF.
But aside from Aho and Svechnikov, they seem to turn over players a fair bit with no real forward progress.

That seems to be right about the way the Flames try to do business.

Interviewed for so many GM jobs that he never landed. Made perfect sense the first time I saw him on TV.

I wonder if there's something else going on there. His firing in LA came out of the blue iirc and I haven't heard his name mentioned seriously for any job since then.

Out the first round one year after. And lost every second round. Like I said, better than Calgary but not a whole lot.

Since the trade the Hurricanes have made the playoffs 5 times and have won 4 playoff series (plus whatever happens this season). Made one conference final (the year they won two series)
Since the trade the Flames have made the playoffs 3 times and won 1 playoff round.

Season points:
99
98 (pace)
117 (pace)
116
now 111-113 depending on their last game
They've been knocked out by the Bruins twice (4 & 5 gms), Lighting once (5), and NYR (7).
Probably the most succesful team that hasn't made the finals this half-decade (NYI arguably close)
