Sutter would be the only guy with a contract for next season in coaching/management/staff.

Seravalli said on Barn Burner on Monday that Sutter is the only person under contract past this season. All the assistants, trainers, GM, etc are lame ducks.

And if Sutter says no to that, and demands his $8M for constructive dismissal?

This is really a messy situation that this franchise has put themselves in

If Flames and Leafs were to swap GMs in the off-season, how would we feel about that?
I feel like Dubas is one of these "smartest guy in the room" type of GMs but sometimes it does work out for him.

If Treliving moves on then my preferred GM would be Eric Tulsky.
Give me an analytics focused GM over a traditional old boys club GM.

Hopefully that doesn't include Chris Snow. I don't know if you could ever find a more dedicated employee. If they let him leave, that would be a really bad look.

If I didn't know any better, I'd think the team was folding and closing up shop.

It sure would be nice having the 2023-24 GM do those duties and interviews.

He's got a neat LinkedIn profile. He certainly seems like a smart guy, and if you couple him with a hockey guy like Conny and Snow, you might have a great management group dynamic.

For the all the flak Treliving is getting the AHL team is dominating with drafted players on his watch and coaching hire.
If we get those guys integrated with the team and Wolf is the real deal a LA like turn around is in the cards with the right coach. As much as people are down on Huberdeau is a legitimate superstar in the league and they are hard to come by.
We may not have a Bedard in the pipeline and only 1 team will but he has put together some decent pieces and if a few pop we are well on our way.

Hell no. Every coach this team has had since Gulatzan has been analytics focused. This season has been all about analytics and it has been the worst season to watch in a couple decades. Treliving has made free agent signings based on analytics and they have been disasters for the most part. Bring someone in with an eye for talent and has a long-term plan and willing to stick with it.

That thought crossed my mind as well. Arena situation doesn't help. That said, its unlikely but a sale maybe?

They are analytics focused but they don't use the data properly to ail what is costing the team or the analytics are just the way Darryl wants.
Anyone who could look at the numbers and breakdowns and see what the issue is with the team and why we can't score.

i dont understand coaches who seem intent on playing players on the "wrong" side. I remember Gulatzan doing that with Brodie and Sutter now with Huberdeau. Makes no sense to me. Of course they both struggled, who could see that coming. I always have liked Sutter but the reluctance to play the young players is just too much, he needs to move on. As for Tre, I am not sure where i stand, dont trust this team to find a better alternative.

Which FA signing that was a disaster was analytics based?

Technically he made Brodie play on the "correct" side but I get what you're saying. For some people it doesn't matter what side they play on and you would have thought somebody of Huberdeau's calibre could have adjusted.

I like that too. Question is whether a first time GM will be given any autonomy at all. Might need a buffer between that person and ownership.
That was Burke for a while but his parting was "mutual". I'm not convinced owners want to pay for that role, and if they did, who would be the right person such that they manage the ownership involvement while giving the GM freedom to do what they need.
You know who has the cachet to get ownership to listen? Sutter. Problem of course is that he would never let a GM do their job.

Source? Hiring Sutter is a pretty big push into the non-analytic side of the debate. He very well might be the next GM though so you should be happy.

Brouwer was not an analytics signing.
Even Kadri or Neal wouldn't have been lauded by analytics (age curves are big part of analytics analysis).
I really don't think Peters, Ward, or Sutter were coaches that heavily relied on Analytics either. Lucic and Lewis wouldn't play as much as they do if it was analytics driving the bus.
Tulsky is the brain behind what is going on in Carolina, and they have made some really shrewd moves in their time.
I just don't want a Mike Futa, Murray, Hextall, Fletcher type of re-tread GM to be honest.
