1. Sell everyone with expiring contracts in 2024. The team will be re-built around the 3 long term commitments we already have (for better or worse). No more anchors...3 is enough...
2. Re-sign Tre.
3. See if Sutter wants to rebuild...if not..gone. Bring in a growth coach.
4. Reimplement always earned - never given. Similar culture as under Hartley but better structure and a team that does have rotating slots for development. I cannot see how a 8 minute per night line with 2 slots for rotating kids sinks a team. Create that.

This was the most boring Flames season in 20 years. Since we're stuck with this mediocre product I'd hire a new coach and hope some guys can bounce back.

100%. A few degrees of separation away, but I know some guys who know Phillips, and even last year he was upset about never being given a chance, and was looking forward to his UFA status with zero desire to re-sign with Calgary.

For low cost - Phillips is the type of player the Oilers could easily take a run at...

Most guys won't be back. Does anyone really think Lindholm or Hanifin will sign here long term? The Flames are a sinking ship.

It would surprise me if Phillips is in the NHL next year. I think Europe is his best bet.

Is there a small difference between Kucherov and Kylington?
I think it will take him some time to regain his form.

Hearing Frank on both Barnburner and Flames talk literally everyone in the front office outside of Sutter has their contract expire this offseason. All the AGM’s, assistant coaches and Treliving are all in the final days of their deals. It is a little concerning that Darryl is the only one locked in and what that could mean.
As for what I would do as the GM? It is all about the retool and getting some assets for guys who are pending UFA’s in 2024. I would be 100% shopping Toffoli and cash in on his career year. I would gauge the interest level of Lindholm/Hanifin on re-signing and unless there is an absolute desire to stay then they should be shopped. Backlund is in the same boat I talk to him about being a transition C and would offer a 3 year team friendly extension but if he wants more money, term or a better situation to win he is shopped. I would see if there is value in Zadorov or Tanev but I am not rushing either out the door for whatever and I would be more okay walking these guys vs Hanifin and the 2 centers. Clarity on Kylington would be needed.
Depending how deep we cut into moving those pending UFA’s I would be targeting younger players or draft picks and flexibility. I also think the Flames should really consider moving a goalie if they get the right offer. Wolf might be too good to cook for another year in the minors.
This team needs a different look and feel next year and get significantly younger. I do believe that Pelletier, Coronato, Zary, and Wolf may all be on the team next year. We need a coach who will play those guys so in my opinion the best thing that can happen is the Wranglers go on a Calder Cup run and Mitch Love gets the gig. He has worked with our younger players and is a solid realistic option. I have mentioned looking at Quenville and seeing if you could get him on a discount as he tries to get back into the league. Huberdeau excelled in his system and Q has the resume of winning that is enticing.
So ultimately retool the team and get younger with a new voice behind the bench.

I would let it be known that I'm returning on a 5 year extension as President of Hockey OPS and GM.
I would conduct the end of season interviews this week/weekend. Then re-interview everyone the last week of April when the emotions should've cooled down. After that, I'd have someone write up the interviews removing any personal identifiers and listing everything as PlayerA - PlayerZ, ManagementA - ManagemenZ, Coachingstaff A - Coaching StaffZ.
Based on those reports I would determine whether to continue with the status quo, or whether significant organizational surgery was needed. I approach the 6 upcoming 2024 UFA's of what their future desires are, IF they don't have an intention of resigning, that would dictate my plans for the upcoming draft and off-season. I would embrace a coaching change and roster recalibration if that was the case.

Based on what, exactly? It's not as if he's physically injured.

If Backlund wanted out last year, I think, there is really big problem with the locker room or team management or whole organization.
So I guess this organization needs whole change if the owners want some kind of success.
I like BT but he is leaving team anyway.
So change GM and his staff and change all coaches.
Have a 5 year plan to rebuild.
Keep all young players in AHL and Dube, Andersson, Vladar, Kylington, Duehr, Pelletier, Coronato & Ruzicka.
Trade Hanifin, Toffoli, Mangi, Lindholm, Tanev, Weegar, Backlund, Zadarov for next 3 years draft picks and blue chip prospects.
Try to trade Kadri without damage. May for overpaid player but with shorter contract. Karlson, Josh Anderson type.
I guess we stuck with Huberdeau, unless Montreal or Arizona or some teams wants him as they needs some kind big name players for marketing.
So my plan to be lotto team next 2-3 years and try to build really solid core group that can compete for long time.

I'm going to go a bit higher organizationally.
1. Determine if Brad Treliving is the person you trust making decisions at the draft and free agency and the trade deadline. If the answer to any of those is no, find someone new. Caveat to this is that if Brad doesn't want to return, start the search for a longer term person that answers the same questions.
2. If the interviews indicate that there are enough players not wanting to be in Calgary with Sutter behind the bench, move on from him.
3.Run it back with more injection of youth with a do not cross line to sell off assets at the deadline if they aren't in contention.

I would like to see Troy Stetcher brought back. Dude really proved himself during his time here, and has some offensive firepower. I was weary about acquiring him, but he seemed to fit in like a glove.
He's a UFA so he probably has options, but I wouldn't mind seeing him come back especially if Stone is gone (for good this time).

Untouchable:
Andersson, Tanev, Duer, Pelletier, Coronato, Wolf,
Players I would hate to see go but would trade if the price was right:
Weeger, Zadorov, Coleman, Lindholm,
Everyone I would actively shop:
Toffoli ( by virtue of his high value), Mangiapane, Dube, Backlund, Ruzicka.
Untradeable for the wrong reasons:
Kadri, Huberdeau,

One thing I think the Flames should get is an offensive minded coach. We are married to offensive minded players on long-term contracts and I think the league is slowly becoming a 4-3 league, rather than a 3-2 league.
If you're scoring 3, then the game is ending 3-3 and you end up with 17 OTLs

I'd keep Andersson, Lindholm, Tanev, Weegar and Coleman around. If they wanted to be around. And that's about it. Scorched earth on the rest. Play the kids, and go get more. I realize this ain't gonna happen.
